Rear shock positon

Hi Folks,

Being a curious person I'm left wondering why some full suspension bikes have the rear shock installed between the seat stays and the lower area of the top tube while other designs have the shock installed from the chain stays to near the bottom bracket and / or don tube other ? Excluding looks, coolness factor or bragging rights are there specific physical and physics properties that makes one design preferred, more stable or advantageous over the other ?

Patents. You either pay to use someone's design or make your own.

The shock position is the last thing you should look at. There are 2 superior suspension designs DW, VPP and their variations like Giant's Maestro, Banshee's KS - I'd not ride anything else

So shock position has nothing to do with anything. I think it has more to do with pivot points and angles.
