Calling all Randolph area and Morris County residents:

Upcoming Eagle Scout project: new trails for Randolph Trail System

Matt Herdman, an Eagle Scout candidate, is looking to add about .7 miles to the existing Randolph Trails system. The new connector will link Freedom Park to Hidden Valley (both in Randolph, see map below). This will take about 3 trail sessions to complete. This particular connector is a natural-surface multi-use trail and is of considerable length, in addition to being sited on a seriously challenging glacier moraine stone field.

The details are:

We are meeting this Sunday, 21 October, at 9am at Freedom Park on Millbrook Avenue. Future dates include Saturday the 26th and Sunday the 27th of October.

Lunch will be served. I can use any number of volunteers and if they have their own tools (MacLoeds and Pick Mattocks preferably) it would be great if they could bring them.

This is your chance to add new trails to a new multi-use trail network close to home.

More on the Trails:

Randolph’s trail system runs a 16-mile course traversing five parks, the Clyde Potts Reservoir Watershed and 2,000 acres of pristine open space. The trails link together schools with neighborhoods and connect to Patriots’ Path at Combs Hollow and Old Brookside.

Randolph’s trails should be viewed as a work in progress as we continue to pursue easements and funding to expand our trail network. The township funds 90% of design and construction costs through state grants and developer contributions. To date, over $1.5 million in state grants and developer contributions has been invested in Randolph’s trails.

Open year round, the trails can be used from dawn to dusk and are closed at night. During the winter months, there is no snow or ice removal, providing a wonderful opportunity for cross-country skiers and snowshoe enthusiasts.
