CINJ Century for the Cure Plus Some Sourlandz
Here is the cancer institute of NJ Century for the Cure route, plus alittle extra through the sourlands.
I had planned to start slower since I was trying to pace myself to end when my wife at the end so my son could see me ride in, but I couldnt find rlb, so I just started at the front. I quickly found 2 of the riders I rode with last year and we had a small group through the small. Soon after that a bigger group came past and we hopped on. This group had some really sketchy riders and I almost slammed into the back of one of them as he slammed on the brakes going over a manhole. At somepoint I was on the front and a small hill came and all of those sketchy dudes fell off and we didnt wait
, so back to the orginal group.
Soon after we skipped the first rest stop and another guy from last year showed up and we moved along. Around MP 50, I knew I would finish way before my wife would get there, so when staright on long hill instead of making the right on wertsville. From here I took a little tour of the sourlands and looped back to wertsville. It was an absolute beutiful day and I took full advantage of it. It was also nice knowing there were 2 more fully stocked rest areas waiting for me, so the extra miles didnt seem too bad.
So back on the course and there were no groups to be found. I would see people in the distance and eventually pass them. I took my time at the last two stops since I would still beat my wife there. I rode the last 70 miles (50 on the regular route) by myself and some of the slight headwinds had me hurting a bit. I chatted with a few people here and there but most of them were going pretty slow, so I just stayed by myself.
My wife was running later than expected, so I climbed up Hill Crest Rd to 78 and chilled there for awhile until she came by. Then I rode in and my son was waiting for me on his balance bike, so we rode across the finish together.
It was an awesome day weather wise and I felt super on the bike and I was stoked on the ride. 120 miles in total.
This was also rlb's first century minus the sourlands section.
