Picnics allowed at 6 Mile?

Don't piss off the red guy
Are picnics or tailgating allowed at any of the 3 parking lots (Rt. 27, Canal Road, Jacque's Lane) at 6 Mile? By that I mean setting up an area with a portable grill. I don't recall but are there picnic tables at the Canal Road lot? I'm trying to get a bunch of buddies who usually ride up north to come checkout the "new" 6 Mile and one of them suggested a tailgating. Just wondering.

Don't know about the grilling part, but there are tables at the Canal lot. I know because I usually have a quick bite there before heading back to the 27 lot (I start at 27).

it's much better to beg forgiveness than ask permission!

Maybe... there is a kiosk at the far end of the lot with the park rules. There should be a yes/no statement about open flames. I haven't had reason to look that closely.

Six Mile Run is part of the Franklin Twp park system and I've had trouble finding any information on rules and regulations. In general, open flames of any kind are restricted as well as any alcohol if desired. However, they are allowed by permit which is $10/4 hrs. More info here:

https://www.franklintwpnj.org/about-franklin/franklin-township-faq

It's a state park, and managed as part of the D&R Canal State Park

Per https://www.dandrcanal.com/index.php/about-d-r-canal-state-park/general-information
Picnic tables and grills are located at some of the access points and near a few of the historic sites. Informal picnicking is allowed along the canal. Open fires are not permitted. Charcoal fires are restricted to the grills in the picnic areas. Under the Carry In/Carry Out Program, day-use visitors are asked to help us keep the parks clean and beautiful by carrying out the trash you carry in.

The NJ Office of Administrative Law administers the website to locate all Administrative Codes for park rules and regulations. This information can be found at:
https://www.state.nj.us/oal/rules/accessp/
For park specific questions, please contact the park office.

So no open fires but using charcoal in grills are OK. Cool. Thanks for the info.
"Charcoal fires are restricted to the grills in the picnic areas"... I read that as you can use the grills provided in some of the picnic areas, but can't just set up your own wherever you want.

Speaking of picnic areas, we should move the picnic table that was near the now retired rainbow bridge
to the area near the nica bridge......maybe at the next group ride, since we won't have to reset the bridge at blackwells mills :D
