Pickin up Sticks

As noticed by many, that last snow really put the Ugly Stick on our favorite North and West trails. The good news is that it's mostly branches and sticks. Light stuff that any healthy rider can move. This is where a good relationship with the Park Land Manager can really benefit us riders. Hopefully the park maint. dept. will handle the big stuff at a park like Mahlon with a location report. Allamuchy has a fantastic soul who is approved to work the big stuff too. And.... We can handle the small stuff which will keep our single track tight and free of ride arounds that turn 12 inch trails into 36 inch. It's amazing how big a tree four or five guys can handle.

So take a ride with some gloves and a folding saw. Cleaning today will give us better rides tomorrow. The big stuff will take time but there's no excuse to ride around the small stuff. This may even leave us with some good technical features too. See ya out there!

Saw

Man, what a difference moving branches and a couple of folding saw makes. I can't believe how many ride arounds are already showing up on branches that can be moved by hand. Saturday's ride out of Waterloo Rd. required fewer stops for blow down but today's ride out of Tranquillity was tedious. I hear the parking lot at Deer Park was quite full but there was not alot of hand movable branches touched.

Please, don't be shy. Give the trails a hand. Your ride tomorrow will benefit from it.

The trail surface was great both days. Nice and hard, the leaves are getting beaten down and showing the trail real nice. The weather was great to boot. Leaf Surfing some of the downs was pretty fun too. That storm definitely put a dent in our fall fun, imo.
