BIYF 2016-2017

Once again it is time for the annual Boogers in your Fleece winter riding contest. Read on and reply to this thread (including your class) to join!

Special thanks to @fidodie for helping again this year, and to everyone else for providing their feedback.

Official numbered list that does not represent not rules:
  1. Contest will run 12/19/2016 to 3/19/2017
  2. There will be two classes, mortals and elites. Place yourselves accordingly by replying to this thread and claiming a class.
  3. There will be monthly winners for mortals (Dec-Jan, Jan-Feb) and overall winners for mortals and elites.
  4. A GPS link (strava etc.) is not required but strongly encouraged. Report your ride by posting the date, moving time, and GPS link in this thread and it will be logged by the data wizard.
  5. All points are based on moving time, not elapsed time.
  6. Multiple rides in a single day may be combined (e.g. commuting, etc.)
  7. Don’t be an ass clause(s):
    • Points will not be awarded for riding in blatant disregard of poor trail conditions. Repeat offenders will be permanently disqualified.
    • Use your brain and ride safely/responsibly. Points will not be awarded for rides that disregard common sense (riding the road in a blizzard at 11pm, etc.) You alone are responsible for your own safety.
    • This is supposed to be fun, keep it in the spirit!
  8. Prizes may include nothing, Rick’s fenders, or other cool stuff. I have a lead on a stash of used McDonald’s butt cheek cups, so clear your cabinets.
    • Edit: There will be real, actual prizes this year: Monthly Mortal winners will get a pair of MTBNJ socks and the overall Mortal and Elite winners will each get an all-new MTBNJ t-shirt.
  9. Riding while traveling: After much internal struggle, these rides will count unless it’s a bike specific trip to a warm place.
Scoring:

Mortals will be scored as follows:
  1. 2 points for the first full hour of riding. There is no rounding, a full hour is required for the 2 points.
  2. Additional points will be awarded on straight moving time in hours. For example:
    • 0:59 moving time = 0 points
    • 1:00 moving time = 2 points
    • 1:30 moving time = 2.5 points
    • 2:01 moving time = 3.02 points
    • 2:38 moving time = 3.63 points.
  3. Maximum points per day = 6. Any riding >5 hours in a day will not accrue any additional points.
  4. Bonuses:
    • There will be weekly scavenger hunt type bonuses to earn 1 extra point for that week. Examples include things like take a picture of the full moon, visit a new MTB park, ride to a historic site, etc. These will be announced the prior week in the scoring post.
    • There will be a monthly write-up bonus awarded to the adventure write-up with the most likes. Winner will earn 2x points for that ride. You can only win this bonus once, (i.e. If you win this bonus one month you are no longer eligible for the remaining months).
Elites will be scored as follows:
  1. Points will be earned on straight moving time in hours. Any day with <1 hour of moving time will not be scored. For example:
    • 0:59 moving time = 0 points
    • 1:00 moving time = 1 points
    • 1:30 moving time = 1.5 points
    • 2:38 moving time = 2.63 points
    • 7:23 moving time = 7.38 points
  2. No daily point cap.
  3. No bonus points are awarded to Elite riders. However, feel free to participate in the bonuses for fun. Because, you know, they’re going to be a lot of fun.

Week 2: 12/26/2016 to 01/01/2017 - Post a picture of strange/unusual/cool architecture
Week 3: 01/02/2017 to 01/08/2017 - Group Ride! Post a picture of you with your group for a bonus point.
Week 4: 01/09/2017 to 01/15/2017 - Full moon ride! Post a picture of you riding under the full moon.
Week 5: 01/16/2017 to 01/22/2017 - Post up some cool street art.
Week 6: 01/23/2017 to 01/29/2017 - Visit a historic site and take a picture.
Week 7: 01/30/2017 to 02/05/2017 - Take a picture of a flowing water feature like a river landscape, dam, waterfall etc.
Week 8: 02/06/2017 to 02/12/2017 - Full moon ride! Post a picture of you riding under the full moon. The full moon will be 2/10 at 7:33 pm. Night rides from 2/10 and morning rides on 2/11 will count.
Week 9: 02/13/2017 to 02/19/2017 - Longest Ride - Get out for your longest (moving time) BIYF ride to date for a bonus point.
Week 10: 02/20/2017 to 02/26/2017 - Participate in an organized bike activity (ride, TM, race, etc.)
Week 11: 02/27/2017 to 03/05/2017 - Easy bonus week. Post a ride, and if you're a JORBA member you get a bonus point. If not, join and get your bonus. This is on the honor system, so don't lie or an angry wookie will attack you next time you ride Allaire.
Week 12: 03/06/2017 to 03/12/2017 - Full moon ride! Post a picture of you riding under the full moon. The full moon will be 3/12 at 10:15 am, so rides & pictures from 3/11 and 3/12 will count for the bonus.
Week 13: 03/13/2017 to 03/19/2017 - Participation Trophy week. Since we'll be graced with this bigass blizzard for the final BIYF week, anyone who fits a ride in somewhere in the next 7 days will get a bonus point.

In for elite - even tho by no stretch of the imagination am I an elite rider, I've always said it's a huge advantage, especially in the winter, to have all day to get a ride in.

Do you have a middle-aged, over weight, out of shape, no time to ride, with 3 children under the age of ten category?? If not, just throw me in the Mortal class and my goal will be to not finish in the bottom five......
Go go go!!!
