Attention all mtb racers and race fans- the flyer is out for the 2008 NYCMTB All-City XC race at Highbridge Park in upper Manhattan on July 6th. Download the flyer here:

http://www.nycmtb.com/highbridge/All-City-2008-flyer.pdf

Registration is open on bikereg:

http://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=6214

A few high points:

• The course has been expanded to 4 miles from the 2.125 miles of last
year. The course includes more urban park terrain including stairs, paved paths with broken pavement, graffiti'd overpasses, etc., and the non-singletrack sections will make the race a bit less brutal than last year and less repetitious.

• Race date is July 6th- the weekend before the NORBA national at Windham, and we expect some national pros to be on hand for the race. We're offering $500 to the top male and female pro racers. Total cash and prize value for the race is over $5000!

• Registration is limited to 300 racers due to space and parking concerns, so please pre-register.

• All pre-registrants will receive a free race t-shirt featuring a variation of the design on the race flyer.

• Race results will be posted on nycmtb.com within 24 hours of the race. We'll be using a computerized timing system, but also a full manual backup to guarantee accurate results.

• Please use tough tires. The Highbridge trails are urban trails, and although we scour the trails before the race to remove debris and glass, there is no way for us to remove everything. Paper-thin race tires are not suitable for the course.

• All junior racers (15-18) race for only $5 (beginner, sport and expert). We're committed to encouraging more juniors to participate in mountain bike racing.

Come on out July 6th and race, or if you're not the racing type, volunteer and help us make it happen (or just come on out to watch). See you there!

Very Very cool. I hope other cities can take Highbridge park as an example and create venues for other urban dwelling mtbers. That is gonna be one hot race.

This is excellent. Well done! Ever consider lowering the ante for the women's race as well? Bring your Christmas photo and get $5 off registration for every kid you have!

I love this idea! Extra bonus if your kiddo is under 1 and you are still breastfeeding... :)

A few updates...

1. Course map is now available. Download a PDF map of the race course here:
http://www.nycmtb.com/highbridge/allcity08-race-map.pdf

The loop is twice the length of last year with some additional park path sections with wide passing lanes, additional wickedly technical singletrack sections (lower Rough Ryder), some "urban" features including a bank of stairs, forgotten NYC sections under the High Bridge, and parts of NYC that few people ever see. It's a completely unique race course that you will not find anywhere else in North America!

2. Our friend Jurgen Beneke, the 1993 UCI World Cup Downhill champ, has upped the ante for our All-City race. In October, he's putting on the "Liquid Lightning Revenge," an East Coast all-mountain race with Super-D and XC legs on one bike (a la Downieville), out at Diablo Freeride Park in Vernon. Check out the details here:

http://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=6807

All Expert and Pro class winners (1st place) at the Highbridge All-City race will receive free entries to that race in October, a $70 value including a two-day lift ticket for Diablo, in addition to regular cash and merch prizes!

3. 1st through 3rd medals for all classes will again be custom-engraved topcaps...
