(No Longer) Offensive Strava Segment Name

Hi All,

After pre-riding the Lewis Morris race course today (great!), I was really disgusted to see that one of the Strava segments is named, "I'm here for the gangbang". This is totally inappropriate and not funny, especially out of context as a Strava Segment. You can call it what you want amongst your buddies, but I do not care to see that every time I ride in Lewis Morris Park. I have already reported it and would like to ask any of you who feel the same to report it as well, to Strava Support.

I assumed it was a joke or some stupid movie line so I looked it up and saw that video clip. That said, out of context, which is how most people see it on Strava, it's pretty horrible. I don't get easily offended.

The connotation of a gangbang is most certainly not consensual:

I don't want to get into a debate about personal fetishes here, but aren't there some other funny quotes that don't carry with it this horrible rapey vibe? Stick to poop jokes maybe?

Huh, i never understood it to be a unwilling participant, but the Internet is agreeing with you. Interesting.
I always thought the difference between a threesome, orgy, and gangbang were just the ratio of men/women.

So every once in awhile I read a post and really believe it at face value. I know the quote, but yeah. Ya can't just throw that out there with no context.

I found the OP interesting so I asked my wife and several friends for their impressions of the word in context of a segment. The group was a mix of races, contained both males and females of varying ages, all college educated. While all thought the term "odd" for a public segment, none of the groups definitions included a "denigration" or "violence" component. I'm not sure the littoral and common definitions connote the same thing in general use.

While I respect the OP's position, I do not condone censorship other than that which is self imposed.

This was a thought provoking topic, thank you for posting it.

saw this thread during dinner. My initial reaction was to also ask my GF what she thought about it. She didn't think it was to bad, but we could both see how it is a bit distasteful.
