not exactly the best place to learn ...but since you insist and I was thrown into the fire when I started, I might as well do the same to you...😀

Park at the top, towards your right side you will see RED/WHITE, follow that to Cannonball, you will end up at a paved road, follow it for a little bit and then you will see CANNONBALL again to your right, just follow CANNONBALL down to the lake :getsome: then do a loop around the lake so you recover and climb back up on CANNONBALL 😉

can't miss it....white C in red circle (trailmarker)

if you hate it, you weren't meant to mountain bike....if you are thirsty for more, then Welcome 😛

I am assuming you mean a route in Ramapo since this is where you posted. But if you are looking for a real beginner loop, ride to Morristown for Lewis Morris closer to Ramapo and a lot less rocky and steep or drive all the way down for the Allaire ride on Tuesdays

You could also try the Yellow down to the lake instead of the Cannonball. I think it's a bit easier.

I heard a few recommendations for Cannonball. I parked up top and I guess I followed it the other way towards Ringwood by mistake. It was a bit challenging.

If you go down by the lake and follow it towards the overpass on 287, where does it go ?

It ends by "the soccer field" (Barbara Drive) in Pompton Lakes.

Careful, that section below 287 tends to be always wet and muddy, it takes a long time to dry.

Thanks for the recommendation. I live in Suffern and was looking for a ride near by. My first ride was last week at Allamuchy- Deer Park and did 10 miles, I found it difficult at times since I needed to learn the gearing. The uphills were hard but doable and the downhills were harder due to all the rocks & speed. How does Ramapo compare?

I dunno, I guess a little bit more rocks, but less climbing....(allamuchy vs ramapo). Although, in Ramapo you have to climb no matter what...
but Deer Park shouldn't be a problem

Like I said, if you are still learning, stick to Lewis Morris....maybe Tourne...or since you are in Suffern, Stewart in Newburgh, but find a guide or bring a GPS.
those are more "beginner friendly" parks
