Any thought on this? Is it purely for possible additional clearance of super-wide tires?

Steve Vai Endurance Guy: Tolerates most of us. Sep 13, 2015 #3 They do it for clearance but it's not necessary. I run my 34t the correct way with no issues.

I don't have any extra tires, I do have 3 pairs of Cranks. The Next SLs, a pair of Fat Turbines, and a pair of stock Suntour Fatboy Cranks.
