thanks for all the info on the tires I tend to over research things to start with so I have already started to check the reviews.
as for the helmet thing I first started without one bout 5 years back never fell not even a slight oops.
started doing the other side of hospital road at allaire and figured what the hey it can't hurt to get one.
that day I did my first endover saw sky and a silver bike on top of me my helmet had mud mashed in it but my brains (what little i have ) were still on the inside of my head.
moral of the story if I don't have my helmet I don't ride...
