Greetings all.
I found this site through a link from the JORBA site... which was linked from the Dirt Rag e-zine I received today.
I know at least one of you already... jdog... who probably told me about the site during one of my visits to the shop. Shame on me for waiting for so long...
I'm looking forward to meeting some of you at Six Mile Run and Sourland, both of which I drive by/near every day on my way to/from work. (I live in lower Bucks County, but work in Somerset near Exit 10 off 287).
Experience: riding since forever... raced BMX in the early 80's... lots of "suburban assault" as I called it back then; jumps, stair-drops, etc... moved to road-touring in the mid-late 80's... got my first mtn bike in '92... first XC race later that year... first DH race in '93... Raced both XC and DH until around '99 when I concentrated mainly on DH (although still rode XC a fair amount). Raced Expert class DH for about 5 years... Mt Snow, Snowshoe, Plattekill, Mtn Creek (this was the pre-Diablo era), Doe Mtn/Bear Creek and Seven Springs. Best DH finish: 7th/52 at Snowshoe in 2001 (no XC finishes worth remembering).
My current fleet borders on "antique" status. All are at least 10 years old and most I've had since new:
XC HT: '97 Independant Fabrications Deluxe w/ '99 Super Fly, full XTR 8 spd, King/Bontrager wheels. Fairly light at around 22 lbs... not bad for a 10 year old steel bike...
XC-FS: '98 Yeti Lawwill DH-6 w/ '00 Boxxer (7" travel), full XTR 8 spd triple, Ringle/Mavic UST wheels. It's fun riding this bike at Diablo... with guys looking at it going, "WTF is that???" Scary to think that some of the kids I'll see there were still in diapers when the frame was first introduced in '95.
DS-HT: '98 Santa Cruz Chameleon w/ semi-custom Z-1 "Dual" 4" fork, XT 9 spd w/ MRP, crappy wheels. Sadly, this bike hasn't turned a tire in a few years...
Road: '97 Colnago Master Bi-Titan with a mix of Campy Record & Chorus. Probably the heaviest ti bike you'll ever find, but it rides nice and looks cool... Over the past few years, this is the bike I ride the most.
Over the years, I've had an example of nearly every bike you can think of: single speed (had an original Santa Cruz-made Bontrager), track (Cannondale), 'Cross (another Indy Fab), and BMX (Gary Fisher Lush rush that I still have) as well as a number of DH bikes (Foes, two M-1's...).
My other time and money consuming hobby is cars. My g/f and I have 8 cars between the two of us... so a good portion of my free time is spent wrenching. Along those lines, I've been wrenching on my bikes for 25 years and will tackle just about any task except wheel building (I built some DH wheels when racing, but realize that wheel building is a skill that requires practice and I don't do it enough to attain my own level of quality, so I leave that task to the pros).
My main shop is Guy's Bicycles in Feasterville PA (been my main LBC since 1982), but stop by Halter's and Wheel Life from time to time.
Anyway... I think that's more than enough of a "book" for now. Hopefully I'll see some of you on the trails...
