Hey there!

Just sticking my head in here to say hello. My name is Tom, and I am preparing to upgrade from my 20+ year old mountain bike to a newer bike, though, still a rigid one. I used to ride quite a bit "back in the day", but lost touch with riding for a while. Looking to get back into riding a bit, as I am coming off of shoulder surgery and rehab last year that basically sidelined me from surfing, snowboarding, well, just about anything physical. So, I am jonesing to get active again.

Used to ride Cheesequake, Allaire, Huber, etc. way back when. Hopefully I will run into a few of you out on the trails. My biking buddy moved to Amish Pennsyltucky ages ago and I haven't heard from him since, so I will be solo usually. I am in South Amboy, by the way, in case there is anyone local that could use a shadow when they go for a ride.

You will be seeing quite a bit of me around here, as I try to soak up all the info floating around this site.

Mikey - our stories are far too similar...

Zaskar - happy to hear that there are a bunch of folks in my area. Would be nice to have company out there.

Pearl - that may well be the first time I've heard that... but, whatever it is, that's where I am.

Cheesequake is rough bro.. rode there a few months ago.. came out feeling like I went a couple of rounds with Tyson..
Oofa. I guess that may not be the best choice for maiden voyage once the new bike arrives. Thanks for the warning. It was pretty rough in the 90's too from what I remember.

Nothing just yet. I have to wait a few more weeks. Wife is picking it up as a birthday present.

HOWEVER, I am picking up a 2015 Kona Unit, and swapping the SS for a 1x10 pack. Pretty jazzed.

I was initially going to go hardtail, as I figured the front suspension would be good for my shoulder, but, I am used to rigid. I don't want to get lazy about my riding.

welcome! had my shoulder done 5 or so years ago - maybe a bit more. its a blur.
it occasionally reminds me it is there, but never an issue.

see ya out there.

(other side of that bridge, and you woulda been north jersey.)

ps
let go of the need to ride rigid, unless it had a 4+ inch tire on it!

Welcome mr t!!! I'm kinda local to you, live in hazlet. Btw, your central. I have heard that the white trail in cheesequake has been worked on. Someday I want to go.

Yeah man, shoulder finally feels like it is back to normal and ready to get busy.

That was my logic too, about the bridge (Benny Hill). I just snuck in.

As for the rigid, well, let's just say I went in looking at something softer, but, pricing gets a bit out of hand. At this point, getting the Unit as a rigid (ha, my rigid Unit) is a starting point. I am used to building up my old jeep (RIP), and am planning on eventually adding suspension to the front... maybe. And no one has made a case for the fatty for me yet. I am willing to listen and learn though.
