New Bike, Looking for Protection

Invisaframe is cut to exact measurements. I did it on the fugitive and it took more patience than I can actually spare for a month. It's been holding fast for two years. The good thing is that while the adhesive is still activated by the water you can actually peel it off and reinstall if you're not happy with the result (bubbles, folds etc.). In my case I did a raw aluminum frame with decals, so I had a tiny spec of decal detaching once I removed one section of the film after a less than optimal installation. Made for good motivation to do it right the first time. It works best on continuous, smooth lines while it tends to lift at the edges in small, angular parts of the frame.

TBH, on the Timberjack I wouldn't use invisaframe, I would go with 3M Heli tape because it's mostly regular tubing relatively easy for the tape to conform to. I have used 3M 18mil on all my Salsa frames so far, the El Mariachis turned out much better than the Mukluk because of the more classic, round shape of the tubing.

I'm also looking into Gorilla Tape Crystal Clear tape, it's a little thinner but looks like it would do the job.
I tried the gorilla clear tape and it is total junk for frame protection

you taped a raw aluminum frame?
Yes I did, it came out nicely and I don't have a scratch on it. Also approved by the frame manufacturer (with a disclaimer on decals).
Isn’t that the point of buying a raw aluminum frame? 😂
What's the point of buying a raw aluminum frame or what's the point of taping it? Not sure I get you rhetorical question right but the point of buying the raw aluminum frame was because it's awesome (seems like the idea got traction too), the point of taping it was to keep it awesome as long as possible, as the tape seems to prevent the oxidation of the frame surface most exposed to the elements. Also prevents light scratches and makes it easier to clean, like for any other painted frame.

Reviving an old thread. Ride Wrap vs Invisiframe vs other.

Have a new ride coming and want to do this. I didn't do a current bike, and have a few spot where I wish I had wrapped it. I'm not a very patient person.

I did Ride Wrap on my Ripmo last year.

It's not easy and the first few pieces will probably not go well but eventually you kinda get the hang of it. Allot yourself 3-4 hours to do it, you definitely don't want to rush the process. On the bright side any bubbles you leave can be easily popped, hair dried and smoothed over the next day and they completely disappear. It looks really good all things considered and I prefer the matte look over shiny paint.
Searching the FB owners group of the bike, looks like it's equal recommendations for either RW or Invisi. The bike will be glossy, so leaning towards that.

since this thread ive done 3 bikes and over 7k miles with invisiframe, zero complaints. ill continue to use it

My invisiframe has been protecting the cardboard shipping tube it came in for >6 months....
I'm holding out installing until I have a day with a few hours buffer of any commitments. And a supply of beer. Although bourbon would work too.

Yeah... eventually, I'll get it on the major impact areas, but there's a piece for every square inch of the frame, which is a little nuts.

That's why I went with Ride Wrap Covered instead of Tailored. It's only the major areas and universal fit. Tailored is model specific and 95% coverage.

I ordered Ride Wrap with the tailored option. One in matte and the other in gloss (for different bikes). Ideally, the only protection I need is on the rear triangle, seat stay, and down tube. Will use the top tube as practice. Can't be that difficult.

I crash often, so the extra paint protection will come in handy.

got a new bike last week, and after many rounds with invisiframe i decided to try the ride wrap. i dont think ill be going back to invisframe. the material is identical, but ride wraps presentation and superior instructions, specifically the numbered sheet with the order you should install the pieces is much nicer than invisiframes "good luck" approach instructions.
