last year i stole from the naked gun. this year, mexico (which is ironic since i was personally named in a lawsuit filed by our sister agency in mexico city during my big time ad agency days 10 years ago). who knows what 2010 will bring!
so, for those of you who haven't been playing along at home for the last few years, this is the time of year when i introduce my goals for the coming year (and myself to a degree) to the public at large with "my public statement". i'm a bit late but whatever.
a bit of background on why this whole thing started: it was intended to be a training blog where i would track my progress on a challenge i issued to a member here a couple years back which was to "rip his legs off on the needle climb" (@ KVSP). on a single speed. well, that never happened. neither me ripping his legs off nor even a head to head race. what did happen was a lot of back and forth between various parties here at the time and a lot of dedication on my part to mold myself into more of a cyclist. at that point i was every bit of 230 lbs. (down from 250 when i first got back on a bike) and still a fairly dedicated gym rat and recovering power lifter. turns out 5'9"(ish) slavic guys are pretty well suited for that stuff. cases in point: Mariusz Pudzianowski & Sebastian Wenta. google these cats and you'll see what i'm talking about. as a side note, if you've never watched the "world’s strongest man" competition you are doing yourself a great disservice. but i digress...
so, what's on tap for this year? well, this year will be no different except i'm not going to lay out lofty goals of riding thousands of miles or riding in some random number of races. this year there are only two goals:
(1) have fun riding
(2) ride more than last year
that's it.
i've found that if you can stick to the first one, the second one will naturally follow. maybe i'll do a race, maybe i won't. maybe i'll run gears this year, maybe i won't. it all depends on what i have time to do and what i feel like doing. i'm not a real race guy so who cares. i'm a guy who's name is pink for no reason other than steve thought it was funny. i'm strong like a bull, smart like a tractor (again, because steve thought this was funny). i'm a guy who rides a bike when he can. in short, i'm like most of you which makes this blog both incredibly relevant and interesting to some, and incredibly boring and useless to others. but it's my bandwidth, i'll waste it if i want to!
so there you have it, 2009 in a nutshell. welcome to the greatest show on the interweb.
