Mud season

I know you all know but. It might not be so bad about hour and a half south of here but I have a feeling the mud might be persistent the next month or so.
Personally I have a few good trail projects to jump on this spring but it would suck if we all spent a bunch of time fixing up damage instead. It would be ok to road ride , go to the pump track, bake cookies, do puzzle or whatever instead of riding in the mud. I think people have been better about it recently, some group rides and races have been canceled because of bad conditions and as a trail builder I hope that's the trend.

Fat bikes don't damage muddy trails and actually smooth out ruts left by skinny tires..........

I get mad but I also see this more as ignorance. This person and others like him/her/they have learned through whatever channels that "riding a bike in the mud on the trails" is some kind of significant personal accomplishment when riding a bike.

This. They think they're some sort of warrior. I think most people who actually ride a lot at least selfishly realize riding in the mud and the consequences (bike cleaning, car cleaning, house cleaning, bearings, etc.) really suck.

100%

Cleaning a muddy bike sucks. Being muddy sucks. As one grows up, they no longer think any of this is rad...dudes. Posts to the contrary are just your garden variety internet troll.

Too much gravel and salt water from snow runoff. How is old mine Rd?
Sounds familiar. I can’t place it though.

And there is a crap ton of salt out there still. Make sure you moisturize and use chapstick before you ride.

I’ve noticed eBike riders tend to go out in adverse and muddy conditions much more than non-eBike riders.

I suspect the reasons are:
A. Newer and less informed riders
B. Easier to pedal through slop with a motor

Don’t be that person.

But it's got fenders!
