Race weekends really aren't bad at all crowd wise, you'll run into a few trails being closed off, but that's usually minimal.

As an introduction to DH for some members, I dont think they will appreciate the speed that some riders will be passing by at. For example, begginers using greehorn at the same time as a few expert riders coming off Salvation, not a great combo.

Honestly, your going to have that problem regardless of a race weekend, unless of coarse you go midweek, its usually pretty dead then.

Looks like a few of us are going up to Diablo on July 4th. Plan is to be there first thing and leave no later than 2:00pm. More the merry...

Can i use my XC bike for this? It has 5 inches of travel. If so should i make the suspension softer?

You'll be bouncing, but try it... couple mellow trails added in this year, atleast you can scope it out and see if you like it.

I rode the old Mountain Creek back in 2001 on one of the F/S XC bikes they were renting there back then & it was a fun time.

You should be fine, just stay off anything with an 'evil' sounding name & you'll be ok (Ex: Ripper, Slayer, Deceit, etc.) :D

and... I wouldn't make the suspension softer, if you have propedal mabye take it down a few clicks. And please LOWER your seat. It will make getting back over the rear wheel in those steep sections a lot easier.

I can't wait to go! I'd go by myself, but then I wouldn't know anyone there... and, well, eh.

Would I be alright bringing my DJ hardtail? Not a really nice one, but it works for me for now. That's the only bike I have right now. Well, that, and a roadbike soon. :D

You can ride a hardtail, but you will be limited to the jump line - which is not really that smooth. Alot of the terrain is rock and if you can afford it, rent a DH bike, it will be money well spent. Also I heard that they might not allow bike without disc brakes, I dont know whats on your HT but that is also a consideration.

Haha, maybe not the best warning...Utah and Careless Whisper sounds tame enough, but...

To add to that, keep an eye out for black diamonds with the white letters "DH" inside of them. That little "DH" moniker is Diablo code for "huge rock gardens that will punish you immensely." There tends to be a big difference between the regular black diamonds, and the black diamonds with "dh" in them...

Looks like I will rent/borrow in that case.

Heck I built Utah and Ripper and I always rode the DJ bike. Hardtails are fine thru any of the rock gardens it's just the manmade drops that will be off limits.........
