Mounting Garmin on Top Tube?

I just picked up a Garmin 1040, overall I love it, but the thing is huge and I am a bit afraid to mount it on the bars/stem.
I saw a random picture of some guy having his garmin mounted on the top tube, anyone do this? if so what is the best way to mount it there?.

You could use one of the standard handlebar mount with the provided o-ring if your top tube is round but I wouldn't trust it on the long term.

I believe there's K-Edge adapter ($$) that attaches to the top tube water bottle mounting holes, I'm sure something similar can be found on Aliexpress to save some. If you don't have top tube water bottle mounting holes you could use one of those adapter sold on Amazon

Thanks, I had seen the 76 project thing, it gets great reviews but I am not sure how I feel about gluing something to my frame.

You and me both. I've actually used an adjustable stem mount from K-edge on all my bikes, I've always been worried my knees would knock the device from the top tube mount. I always use the tether anyway, but the idea to stop and reseat the computer multiple times during a ride never appealed to me...more so if the computer is wider than normal, for reference I have a 830.

it would be fairly trivial to take one of the k-edge inserts and make a bracket for it that could be sticky taped to the top tube of the bike (im thinking 3m VHB sticky tape, not scotch), or if you know someone with a 3d printer to just run off a stick on style mount for them. Hell if i have a few free minutes maybe ill knock one out while im bored on a work meeting later this week (i already have the file to print the inserts for the kedge mounts so expanding on it shouldnt take too long)

Wouldn't it be somewhat dependent on the profile of the top tube?

BTW, I think you just became my BFF...ah, the things WE could print together, and I mean YOU could print for ME...

i mean, technically yes, but most of them are fairly straight so not a huge deal

If it is too far out I also have. A 3d scanner so I can get any contour that I can get my hands on

I have a couple of the 76 Project mounts. Love em - but I mounted it to my top tube knowing that it'll be there permanently (or at least a residue will be)
TBH, with a stick on accessory I would be more worried that it would fly away at some point rather than any residue left behind when removed intentionally, Goo-Gone will take care of that.

How to secure do you think it is? do you feel good about about when you are descending down rough rocky trails?.

Tried to remove it once. I'm not concerned about it falling off. Just make sure you get the one that fits your top tube diameter - there's a flat one and one that curves

Looks great, but the one I saw was on insta from some guy in europe, somehow it just came up in my feed, I think it was actually re-posted by Garmin
