This is the post to my weathervane. 15 years old. At about year 5 the threaded connection failed. And it now fails every year cause jb weld won’t hold it through the change of temp and vibration.

it is 3/4” bar stock with the top 9” turned down to1/2”. Total length is 39”

do I have it welded (it is now an option from the manufacturer) or do I have a single piece fabricated? Or other ideas?

I just cleaned the joint up

Weld it or fab a sleeve to fit over the joint, or do both and weld a sleeve.

sleeve would work - let me see what i have.

this will not be visible - wonder if some of the black iron pipe from my wh project would work?

I agree with everyone else, best would be to weld it. On the other hand, if the black pipe you have is a snug enough fit you can probably get away with using that as a sleeve and just JB weld it over the joint.

Pics in a bit -

i don't have a welder - and this is not the excuse i need to get one ? (i know, wtf, it is the perfect excuse)

the black pipe left a about 1mm space all the way around.
The pipe cutter put a nice shoulder on the inside of the pipe, so that end is snug
set it up with some epoxy/resin with fibers mixed in -
curing now.

if it doesn't work, will do that weld thing.
