Lost and Found

I’m a new rider so not sure what the proper etiquette is (if any) but I found a headlight on the trails in Allaire today. I wasn’t sure if I should have left it there but I grabbed it with the hopes of finding the rightful owner here. If anyone lost one recently please reach out and I’ll meet up to return it to you.

Or if I should have left it there I will go place it back where I found it.

Also, if this belongs in a different location please let me know.

Thank you

Hold on to it. This is a good place to post it plus I will pass it on to other groups.

This remains unclaimed. I also sent an email to allaire@dep.nj.gov asking them to contact me if anyone reported a lost Garmin but have heard nothing. At this point, I don't think the owner is going to be found.

It's a Garmin Edge 840. Looks brand new. I don't want it and it seems a shame to let it sit in a drawer. Let me know if anyone wants it.

Whoever takes it, there'll still be a trail in case the legit owner does show up. I have gender, birth year, height, and weight from the user profile. Too bad it doesn't include name.

I’m pretty sure if you contact garmin suport they can trace it back to user profile and serial number.

Good idea on the serial number. I found it under the weather cap and will give it a try with Garmin. I fished around more in settings and under WiFi, My Networks, I found "FreemanHome". Ring any bells?

There’s a NJ Mountain bike FB page that im part of you can join it or I can post it there for you if you want.

Could post the date found there and ask around and then you have a way to ensure someone properly identified it especially with the Wi-Fi name. Garmin connect also stores the serial number so the owner would know it.

Digging deeper could see on strava if anyone with the last name freeman rode segments there before ? Obviously not on the day you found it they would not have been able to save the ride.

Give it a little more time. I just saw this today and you posted it a month ago. I shared it in a couple other groups. I swear someone actually told me that they lost their GPS back around the beginning of the year but can't for the life of me recall who..... Going to try to connect the dots.

If they have Strava it'll work... I found out the hard way a while back when I synced a used GPS with my sons Garmin connect without clearing the ride history first 😬 (pretty sure I bought it from a member here...). Hence id recommend using a computer and only uploading one of the rides 😉

Was just gonna say this.

ONLY connect it to a computer and grab a FIT file don’t sync it with your accounts.

Even if you just manually upload it to garmin connect and then see if any rides show the owners house.

Okay, I'll try some of these things and see if I get anywhere. I found it on Jan 1 in the Brisbane parking lot on Atlantic Ave.

If you really want to go the extra mile, most shop POS systems log the serial numbers on receiving/sale. It assumes that they 1) bought it from a local shop, and 2) the shop serialized it correctly.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that they're probably not on here. I can't imagine an enthusiast riding in the woods without a cover on the garmin, at least.
