Lightweight AM/gravity fork

Hi. I'm new to this forum and just picked up a GT Sanction. Do mostly all mountain rides but understand my bike can handle some light freeride due to it's 67degree head angle and some beefy components. Anyway I currently have a RS Lyrik 2 step fork and plan on switching that out to a DT Swiss EXC 150 to lighten it up a bit (going from 36 to 32mm stanchions). Is the fork too delicate for light freeride? Should I keep the Lyrik or look for 36 talas? Since I do lots of XC and AM, I want to have an adjustable fork, which the DT Swiss is not but is 2lb less than my Lyrik. Any thoughts?

just to clear something up, what's light freeride exactly? the difference between AM and LF in my brain is nill, that's why i ask.

if you want an adjustable fork, i would recommend not getting the swiss. if you have the scratch, i'd would say go with the talas if you really don't like the lyrick.

that said - what's wrong with the lyrick? i have heard good things about them.

The 2 step is a great fork. Keep it. Forget what all your friends are riding and hammer next to them with your 36 and point and laugh at them for being panzys.

I personally don't think you will acheive much by lightning it 2 lbs. And you will be giving up a lot when AM gets closer to FR. I would never take a 32 to Diablo and ride the drops. Only if I was my first time and trying it out but at the pt I would only be taking the smooth stuff.

I'd stick with the RS

5 years ago I swapped a 36 Vanilla for a 32 TALAS on my old Heckler, and the difference in the stiffness of the forks was night and day. I'm not sure what the new QR15 axles give you for stiffness, but between the larger legs and 20mm thru axle, nothing threw the 36 off track. I didn't hesitate to keep it and put on my Nomad build 3 years ago, and it handled 6 days in the Alps without worry.

You'll appreciate the the RS's 'stoutness' when plowing through rock gardens and whatever drops you work yourself up to more than dropping 2 lbs.
