Cyclocross season is soon to be in full swing! Come on out to get ready for racing or see what cyclocross is all about. Summer/Fall cross practice is a weekly event, every Thursday, through the end of October that will help you practice the skills you'll need on race day.

Each week's practice will include a focus on a particular skill then hot laps on the practice course, featuring a gravel pit, off cambers, and barriers. As racing gets closer, practice will focus on important features of upcoming local races.

All experience levels are welcome, from UCI racer to first time 'crosser. Just remember your helmet.

Starting July 19 at 6:30 PM and continuing every Thursday through the end of October. Meet at the gravel path just North of the Liberty State Park Interpretive Center (across from the parking lot).

Next week's practice will focus on turning. Drills to include: turning with no brakes, turning at speed, and off cambers. Closing out practice with hot laps of a small course with the infamous LSP Gravel Pit.

After next week I'm contemplating moving practice to Thursdays to not conflict with Randall's Island, sorry @MadisonDan.

Reminder for practice tomorrow! It will be hot so bring plenty of water. There is water in the park but not near where we'll be.

We had a good turnout last night ranging from experienced races to some people completely new to the sport. We practiced different varieties of turning and some off camber work then hit a few luke-warm laps through the makeshift race course featuring some singletrack and the infamous LSP gravel pit.

The consensus is to move to Thursday nights going forward and pushing back to 6:30 PM. Next week we break out the barriers!

Facebook event for 7/27

Come one out tonight at 6:30! We'll be working on dismounting, remounting, then introducing barriers to the mix. Bring bug spray.

A little teaser from last night's practice. We broke out the barriers and I captured some of the guys first attempts ever at barriers. Not bad!

Next week we'll session some off cambers in the woods and put some more focus on hot-laps.

We'll be focusing on a mock-course this week as shown below plus adding in one additional off camber section. It'll really get your blood pumping after a few laps!
