It is that time of year again...We are planning our trail work in Lewis Morris. Submit your ideas, problem areas, or just what you'd like to see. As always I have proposed work on the Northen Loop, but it isn't on the burn schedule as of now but things could change and this would require a lot of hands. Our park superintendent would like a plan for this area since it would all be new, and likely directional. On the schedule starting in March or early April we will put the finishing touches the downhill gully trail and remove the fence at the bottom. Once that is completed we are looking to extend the pink dot trail across the fire road and up-towards the Jockey Hallow boundary to connect with Blue trail that leads down to the back parking lot.
I am also looking to set up some evening touch up sessions once we have more daylight to work on some small projects.
Keep a look out here for dates and head on over to Jorba.org to become a member and get on the mailing list. https://jorba.org/.../morris.../lewis-morris-county-park/

Hopefully this gets approved, new trails are always a fun project to get involved in.

Whatever you do, make it more like the new/rerouted trails cut last year - such nice flowing singletrack!

Trails are great and gets better every year, though blazing is horrible. Should have some rationale on colors and relation to each. I'd rather see 'c' cut trails instead of trying to label every trail with a color. Or use dot trails if it's necessary

In the past I’ve tried to pursue a loop on the hill to the west of Sunrise Lake. Something like this but of course following the contour lines to mitigate erosion. I never succeeded because there were too many other existing areas that needed work so building “new” wasn’t a priority for the park at the time.

In case it helps, attached is a PDF of a series of recommendations, including references on the trail map, I made to MCPC when the current trail director, Amy Lutsko, joined back in 2020. Some of these recommendations, like the awesome new "Sidewinder" type trail and the reroute of Orange have come to reality. I take no credit in the work done, @Id_rather_be_skiing and Amy, along with myriad volunteers, have done an amazing job at the park in the last few years in cutting new, sustainable trails. The new White singetrack reroute of the awful rubble-strewn section of yellow is also excellent. But there are a number of other recommendations, including the aforementioned idea of a loop on the hill next to Sunrise Lake, that we could still pursue. Let me know if there is an opportunity to discuss in the spring when Amy gets to setting 2025's priorities.

There's been so much good work done. Most of the poorly built or just eroded trails have been replaced already. Is there any potential on the "other side" near Delbarton?

Hopefully I've highlighted the correct part of the map. I'm trying to get what I'd consider the last big climb of the 2024 race course loop; right before you get to the new area that replaced the old off camber switchbacks. Anyway, that climb has taken a beating this winter. There are noticeable trenches now.

Quick little chat with Amy today, that area near sunrise lake has a bunch of invasive plants so it looks to be on the burn schedule, if thats the case it could be a nice option.
