Learn me about Sram and Shimano Bleed kits

Pearl

THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING
I have SRAM AXS stuff on the road, Shimano on the mtb. I think it's time to learn how to do this myself as it seems that the kits I find are about the cost of one trip to the shop. I don't think I'll be connecting lines and stuff often, just the routine stuff. (I say that now knowing 100% I will sell 1-2 bikes in the next 365 days)

I know that both of them use different fluids so certain things should be kept separate. What do I cheap out on? What is a must have?

Do I just buy two of these and dont cross them between each other?

Do the sram brakes have bleeding edge? If so get a kit that supports that. It’s worth it IMO.
Get a separate cheapo Shimano mineral oil bleed kit from Amazon

Yes, buy two separate kits and just label one for Shimano and one for SRAM. If it was me I'd cheap out and buy one of the "pro" kits and one of the "standard" ones. Dump all the fittings into a 3rd container and then as you use them put them into the "Shimano" or "Sram" organizer.

If the SRAM supports bleeding edge you'll need to buy something like this to add to the two kits: https://www.amazon.com/CYCEARTH-Adapter-Brake-Bleeding-Ultimate/dp/B07WWGLM7K

Also watch the video on youtube called "how to make your sram brakes not suck" - That same process applies to Shimano brakes too and keeps them working like new.

You can’t mix them up because the fittings are completely different.
Can mix-up the tubing and syringes though. Probably not a big deal if you use a cleaner on them each time, but if you just wipe them out and put them away there can get mixing of fluids.

Pearl is cheap but idk if he that cheap

Shimano uses a plastic cup on the lever and a hose on the rear with no fitting. 0% chance of screwing it up. Unless you guys are talking about some ghetto Amazon shit that comes with everything but that's real stupid.

Gone through the process twice with my xt and the lever still feels the same. What’s everyone’s favorite Shimano bleed video for idiots?

I used the park tools video

Okay I think I figured it out, not sure if it’s the right way to do it but I had no bubbles in the line and the brake lever was still going pretty close to grip, so I decided to pop the wheel out, squeeze the lever 3-4 time and put the pads back in. Back in business.

went around the hood with good boy and they worked as expected, got me feeling like:

Well I finally sold my CAAD and picked up an Allez sprint and needed to put new bars on it, so I dove in with a $30 bleed kit from the 'zon, olives and barbs and went to work. I used cable cutters to cut the hoses because it didn't seem like that big of a deal, followed the sram bleed instructions and nailed the rear brake on the first try. Woot woot! I must have done something wrong in the process for the front as it was a little squishy, but I went to bed and tried it the next day and took my time, and we are golden.

I must say this was way more intimidating without the tools/syringes in my hands, but once I got the gloves on and the fluid pouring, it was rather easy. Just need to take my time. Now I may just go and do all my bikes because i can lol

It’s really easy. Just keep everything clean and organized. And follow the instructions.
