Kranky Cycles in Highlands - Support a LBS

Hey guys - if a local bike shop (LBS) ever needed your support it is Kranky in Highlands.

Few towns got hit harder by Sandy then Highlands - meanwhile this fact has gone little noticed as towns like Sea Bright, Seaside, etc have gotten most of the public attention.

Garrett (owner) is asking for help to get the place up and running again - it appears he falls through a number of cracks in order to get assistance from FEMA/SBA. He has turned to gofundme.com to accept donations/gifts.

I am certain a number of guys on the site know Garrett - I know him as a guy who treats his customers fairly and will hustle to get your bike ready for the next weekends' ride. A guy worth supporting. Please give what you can.

Sean

Thanks for posting this Sean. Garret is a solid guy and like you said works hard on your bike so you can play hard.

What is the easiest way to get in touch with him? I have a cell phone number but was not sure if it was still good. Stopped by the shop the other day but no one there.

agree. Garrett's shop deserves support from the local Highlands and bicycle communities.

and agree with Sean that the NJ bayshore has truly been the forgotten area in all this. Highlands (and some of the other NJ bayshore communities) got absolutely CRUSHED by Sandy.

Garrett is a stand-up guy and an awesome bike mechanic. I've used him for a number of repairs and his work is second to none. He's also great to have so close to Hartshorne for those pre-ride mechanical that could ruin an entire ride.

It would be a shame to see Kranky Cycles not re-open and be another lost business in Monmouth County because of Sandy.

I agree with Don, Thanks for posting this Sean. A great way to get in touch with Garrett is to friend Kranky Cycles (in the Highlands), on facebook.

On behalf of the Star-Ledger newspaper I have to disagree that Sandy's impact on the Bayshore has been ignored. We have run MANY stories on Keyport, Union Beach, the Highlands, etc ... including photo spreads and columns.

Still, nationally, I have to agree with you. That damnable roller-coaster-in-the-ocean photo from Seaside has become iconic.

I encourage everyone to help out this LBS!
