got our new plan summaries with our paychecks today, and it turns out surgery is covered 100%, no deductible, no copay, same with hospital costs and physical therapy. i also have 16.5 sick days left.

so, with that in mind, i want to get my knee looked at. i fractured my left knee cap at least twice, have bone fragments floating around, and i'm pretty sure i snapped a ligament on the inside front, while training for a marathon. i heard/felt a loud "SNAP", and fell over. i had to hop home on one foot, and could barely walk for a week. i had no insurance in those days, so i cured it man-style, by ignoring it.

recommend me a knee surgeon. a good one. preferably in west morris county, eastern sussex county or northern warren county. sparta area would be ideal.

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Stephen Gecha from the Princeton Orthopaedic Group. He's not right around the corner from you but a good surgeon is worth the trip. He just does knees and specializes in sports medicine. I had my ACL reconstructed and miniscus damage repaired a year and a half ago. I did a lot of research and he was recommended by several doctor's as the surgeon they would use if they had knee problems. He should be on your short list.

Im pretty sure my mom used this guy when she had her knee scoped. She was pretty happy w/ how things turned out.

Besides, Fred could stand guard outside your door at Princeton Hospital. Kind of a last fling before heading to Alaska.:D

Mark McBride in Morristown area. Best sports med doctor around.

Totally agree with this one. I'm from Toms River, but I drove up to his office too. He rebuilt my left wrist and I'm in awe on how well it recovered. His colleague, Dr Hurley repaired my class 4 separated shoulder. ( That's when there is NO ligament left.) A year later, I only noticed it on cold days of winter.

looks like it's mcbride 2 - grecha 2(maybe 1 1/2). mcbride does look a little better as he's accessible by train...

so, do i need to go see some kind of other doctor first, or do i just get an appointment with the surgeon and he/she can decide what's wrong?

I think that depends on your plan. Some plans require a referral from your GP for a specialist, other's do not.

Just make the appointment with the surgeon of your choice. They will probably be able to diagnose it on the spot but will also order up an MRI to to get a look at the ligaments. If your benefits allow, you might even consider making an appointment with 2 doc's to get a 2nd opinion.

McBride or Crutchlow, both are in the Morristown area. Mcbride is awesome and Crutchlow is just as gifted. He did my ACl a few years back.
