Just an idea?

Glouster Community College, Camden Community College are 2 great places 2 ride...Anyone ever think of apporaching Atlantic Cape Community College about putting in Singletrack or MTBike Trail? There is a ton of acreage around the college and most it not all of it isn't being used. I don't know the lay of the land...but it might be something worth looking into?...any takers????

More trails are always cool, but we also need to match advocates to them. Are you planning on contacting the college or asking of someone else is interested in doing it? This bit of land is super close to my house and I would be into helping, but not in a position to take on more projects on my own at the moment.

Shoot me an email, PM or call my cell we can discuss.

Hey Ken,

Thanks for the response...I know you have your hands full but appreciate the interest. I just started back at ACCC..trying to finish up my degree. But have been giving it a ton of thought about seeing if the school would be interested? I can lay the ground work..see if its a go/maybe/no? But gathering people to get involved might be a big challenge...I really don't know? I've been out of the loop for some time now. Anyway...I'll keep you posted and see where this will lead.

who owns the land?

I know that ACCC owns a large portion of the land surrounding the college..not sure who owns the connecting pieces though..My pops hungs a section that butts up to it..I'm sure he has taxs maps and the such..so I'll try to find out.

Talked to a women today at ACCC and told her about the trail idea....she directed me to another women...got her phone number and will try to contact her in the next couple of days. Still need to walk or ride the place to see if its a good lay out for a trail..I think it should be..althought there is alot of low lying and swampy sections near the school....I'll try to keep you posted.

Talked to a Richard P. who is in charge of building and grounds at ACCC about the building a single track trail at the college. He seemed very interested and receptive to the idea. They have a mile and a half exercise trail that is never used. He said he belived that there is approx 700 acers of unused property that the college sits on. There has to be an additonal 1000 acres that is undeveloped and also ajoining the school. I'll try to get out there this fall to walk the property and see if/how a multi loop can be laid out?

Walked about 2 miles of the ACC College tract today. What I walked is all uplands with open oak and pine trees. Not much elevation (normal for SJ)..but I'm sure there are some areas that will/can make it a challenge. There is a path that runs down the middle of the tract..not sure how far it goes..but i'm sure it runs deeper into the land before end up somewhere? This section is right behind the school...I didn't even get a chance to see what's to the right or left of the school as far as property goes..but there is a ton of it. I just scratched the surface today...a GPS will be needed to lay the course..walking it I think will take some time to understand the layout. I saw no ATV or Dirt Bike tract to me mention. I'm technology illiterate...so using a GPS for me isn't gonna happen...anyone who is interested in getting involved and can run a GPS..please get in touch with me.

a smartphone with Strava while not entirely accurate should give you an estimate of what you got down there

Yes to that. The latest GPS technology doesn't require you to be a propellerhead. Look around and see whats affordable and do-able. One other option is that ACCC has GIS (geographic information system) classes. There might be a student in those classes that would jump at the chance to develop the map.

Hey thanks for both comments. I don't own a I-Phone...so Strava is out...but I really think your idea with getting a student to help out with that type of class would be helpful Kurt..thanks for the insight🙂....oh and this place would be great for the Mower🙂

How about a smartphone? Doesn't have to be an iPhone. OR I can meet you out there sometime and check it out.

You know come to think about it...before we can even lay out the trail..we have to know the property bounderies...this would help. My father has a few tax maps...I'll try to look them over to see what they own and down own..this would probably help. Either way...I think 700 acrs should be enough for a trail.

If we're just going to ride what is currently there then there's no worry about being in shape.

Gerry,

there is only a center trail that I believe runs back to the Lincoln Cemetary..but that all there is to ride. The place needs to be walked since there is no other trails in the tract. When I did Estell..I found walking the property to be best..it helps you imagine what could be done..along with finding any if all elevation or other obsticals. Either way...let me know if your still interested...
