Going Long and Hard.

Rebuilt the Timberjack today for Iron Cross. 29er. 2:1 gearing. While I was at it I also slapped a pair of Level TLMs I had kicking around.

Then I rode it at 6-Mile and popped a bolt out of my dropout, because, POWER. Or because, shitty aluminum dropouts. I put a stainless nut/bolt on the driveside, I just need to do the same for the other side now.

That leg speed translates into the ability to accelerate and follow an attack. Something I have never been great at but can get to a point that I can sorta fake it.

Funny. I’ve been saying the same thing to Dustin and his cousin. I’m a masher but this winter I want to work on my foot speed. I’ve tried it here and there but nothing serious. I find focusing on getting my dead leg about way helps from bouncing around.

Cadence meter for my 24th birthday next month.

The oval helps too because it gets the legs around faster. At least it helps me.

My old racecar was parked outside today. The kid that bought it lives a town over and is prepping it for a track return. I've been trying to buy it back for over a decade. I built this from a bare shell in my driveway in Cliffwood Beach. 1,200 pounds with 135hp 1.8L JH. Welded diff. 4k trans with 4:11 final drive. 293 racing cam with a 2,500rpm idle. Downpipe with side exit Fender exhaust. All custom. Took about a year to build. I raced it in EP for about 10 years before selling it to Shawn, who lived in NY at the time. He bought a trailer with the car, 8 sets of wheels. 2 motors. 2 trans. A spare shell and a parts car. Now he lives 5 minutes from here and taunts me. Asshole.

Oh hey, guess who isn't riding a mountain bike at unPaved?

I went back and forth for a bit trying to see if a multi-wheel gravel bike could actually replace my Tarmac. This thing gets damn close. It's actually a road bike first, so it'll only run a 700x34c tire. To run it as a gravel rig you need to run 650c wheels. The road geo is very apparent and it's definitely a faster bike than a Diverge or true gravel bike. And of course, it has mounts for all of the things which will come in handy during Rando season!!

I did a Century to break it in today and it felt great. Took a few miles to get used to the big 47c tires, after that it felt like I've owned this bike for years. It does help that I can get my fit dialed just by sitting on the bike during the build. I measure everything afterwards but it's usually within millimeters.

It does have a fucking cable on it though. I know the pain you commoners have to deal with now. Pushing a lever is for the birds. So much energy, GONE. I'll see if I used up all my Sram favors yet. AXS mullet group will be in it's future. And I have a pair carbon 700 wheels already.

Liking the warroad, it definitely checks all the boxes. It was never on my radar (pricey) but if this gravel thing bites me I just might have to reconsider. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts after some more miles
