I've lost my mojo?!?

a.s.

Mr. Chainring
After starting the year off having one of my best riding seasons, I've completely lost my desire to get on a bike. Don't get me wrong. I haven't been sitting at home eating ice cream and watching "Sex and the City". It's been quite the busy summer. The few times I've had an opportunity to grab one of my bikes I've gone fishing instead. Or slept in. Or did laundry. 😳 Anyone who knows me will tell you that's not normal. Truth is I'm burnt out. My riding flame is but a mere pilot light.

Is this "normal" for a guy whose life has revolved around cycling for the past 30 years? Do I wait it out or force myself to get back on a bike? 😕

Yes, it happens. Often in correlation to the arduous heat.

The fact you posted this tells me you should just take a week off the bike, and then get back on it. The week after the week off may feel like hell, but you'll be feeling much better once you go through the rest-cobweb cycle.

I am heading into almost a 2 year lull, burnout happens as does life. Mojo will come back though fishing sure does sound like a nice replacement.

Finding a totally new place to ride and explore might also help. The nice fall weather will probably help the most though.

I just purchase an expensive bike and I'm good for a year or two .

Yeah, a new bike is always good at getting me motivated to get out and ride too.

I don't know if it's normal or not, but be happy losing your mojo doesn't mean being scared shitless on any trail that has a rock. Up in Ringwood yesterday, I didn't even try to go over several logs, rock gardens etc. I crashed two months ago, and have absolutely no mojo, every time I get on that bike! And I need to be on the bike, to get in shape for ski season!

I found your mojo, it's in sedona but someone stole the pedals

mojo loss happens. i don't even want to touch my road bike right now. and my mtb is broke. trail run. go rock climbing. listen to music. paint. do something else. or buy a fat bike.

Yes - completely normal..

I took several long breaks from riding (Bicycles, Dirt Bikes, Motorcycles) for some reason or another and always came back to it - each time I came back to it, it was in a different form or genre / style of riding.

Do what feels right for you - don't force, just ride it out.

Edit - be careful, the longer you're out, when you come back, your gear can be completely outdated and it will cost you a ton to get back in the game

Ditto, I have sat out some time and normally come back with something different.....DH bike to trail bike, trail bike to single speed....etc.

Cyclecross on a fat bike... :dead:

I think ktmrider hit it on the head. I definitely need a new bike. My 2011 Pivot is awesome but it's the longest I've owned a single bike ...and it's a 26er. 😵 I'm used to riding the latest and greatest but with 2 kids my expendable income has shrunk considerably.

Wow ...I think I feel even worse now.
