Boz - one other thing. if you are into stouts, there is a "g" mix available, which is a N/CO2 blend, which provides the characteristic cascading bubbles & "softness" of a guinness stout.

I would try a basic IPA recipe first to see how well it works. Xmas is coming so who know what goodies I can put on my list.
 
Newbie request

Years ago I used to serve beer in Australia, and there were dudes at the pub who brewed it and we were not allowed to see the setup. I drank more than my fair share though.

Apparently a few weeks ago my wife claims I was babbling about brewing beer at a neighbors house after drinking a few too many Chimay's and she said I requested some brewing gear for Fathers day.

Can anyone point me to a real good place to start? I have downloaded podcasts and looked at web sites but I prefer real advice from folks who started out themselves once. What works but doesnt cost too much money etc?

I figure I want to make some basic ales first or whatever is easiest to get the hang of it.
