Hess Trucks?

Has anybody else collected hess trucks? I'm debating what I should do with my family's collection. I have 40+ trucks that I just brought over from my mother's place. Ranging from 1980 to 1996. I know back in the day we thought these would be worth a fortune by now. While the early ones have increased in value a bit I'm not sure if the best bet is to sell these as a whole, or individually, or hang onto them and collect more dust. Thoughts?

My Dad bought me and my sister one every year up until we were about 16. He has them in the attic somewhere. I know he has some old ones, are they really worth anything?

It looks like the early to late 80's ones are worth 70-75 each the rest seem to be $30-60 depending on year. I figure I have about $2K worth if any of these prices are valid.

I have about a dozen from late 80s - 90s. After looking at the rather flat prices I decided to save them and bring them out as gifts for my (someday) grandchildren.

I have at least one truck from 1980 to current. I'm hording them until I can sell them to buy a bag of chips. My son loves playing with the few that he has, they are pretty tough.

I see a few with bigger lots than I have and only going for a few hundred dollars. Maybe they are better as gifts... Hmm.

some are very valuable -
original, unopened boxes. Delivered directly from hess as gifts,
oddities. biggest money is in the early stuff - but most in the late 70s/80s bring
$60ish for good condition in a box.

I've gotten one every year since 1984... and my mom never let me have any fun with them. Thinking maybe they'd pay for college or something?

My son's gotten one every year since 2009... I've deemed them not worth enough to NOT have fun with.

They'd probably be worth more if everyone in the world hasn't been buying/collecting them since the 70s....

I was at Boudners estate auction. They had a huge collection, probably 100 trucks mostly mid 80's to present. Average selling price was $10.00, and most of the bidders said even that was too much. Now the early ones, those have some value.
