Heart rate monitor?

What do you guys use? My original garmin and wahoos each lasted about 3 years each. The last 3 (garmin hrm-pro, wahoo and polar) have all died within 6 months through a year. Willing to try amazon ones just because I am sick of wasting $50 plus each time. The garmin screw also stripped the nut out of one of the screws. I have tried the battery upside down trick too.

Have you tried the Scoshe arm band style?

If not, spend the $30 and give it a shot. It's rechargeable so it doesn't have the CR2032 issues.

I'm using bontrager for my hrm since 2013 iv only had to replace it once (I'm on my second unit)

I use a Polar, it's been great. My experience with Wahoo was good as well, save their straps (which suck).

I’m big on polar. I’ve been using the cheaper Ant+ ones, the Bluetooth/Ant+ seem to connect Ant+ more often anyway. Haven’t had good luck with wahoo. Lots of signal drops Zwifting indoors and riding outside. Also tried Moofit. It has been solid.

Was just going to ask the same question. The strap on my wahoo ticker bit the dust and wahoo doesn’t make it any more. Will give me 20% off new purchase. Any info on the optical armband style from wahoo or other manufactures? Or has anyone had luck using a third party strap from Amazon? Thanks

I still have a 7-8 year old Powercal (including a nasty chest-sliding crash). I'm on my 3rd strap (I used the original, a polar, and a Garmin premium strap, best of the bunch).

Obvs you can't buy a Powercal anymore, but with that said, look for models that have a screw-style compartment, instead of screwed-on, like the Garmins.

Polar H10 has a pop-top compartment, so maybe that'll work better for you.

Are you just killing the straps? Or the sending units? The manufacturers are obviously cagey about it, but the straps are just electrode units, and can be interchanged...provided the mounting lugs fit your unit.

I've taken to washing the strap every week/so of use. More if it's especially sweaty out. The original strap with hard electrodes was very tolerant of non-washing, but the soft electrode straps start throwing bad readings for me after a couple of weeks.

I'm not personally a fan of the optical sensors. They need to be tighter than I like for them to work well, where the electrode straps can be looser (YMMV, depending on body shape, etc...)

I have the newest one piece garmin(yellow). It just stopped working. I tried the upside down battery reset, two new batteries, and it is inconsistent at best.

My Garmin dual HRM has been pretty good. It’s lasted a while. I don’t use it indoors. And the key to not stripping the screws is to use an actual torx t5 bit. (Some are Phillips head and you need to use the recommended size for them too ).

my wahoo tickr strap constantly is searching for a connection, i too like it because it doesnt have those stupid screws for the batteries like the garmin one. i have a support ticket in, but it looks like i had one in for 2022 for the same one. im sure my luck will run out and i'll be buying another one.

does anyone offer a rechargeable hrm?
