Grease opinions

Searched for existing thread on this... I'm looking for medium weight grease to replace the crappy Parktool polylube 1000.

I have Slick Honey for lightweight use and I am considering:

Maxima blue - real sticky
Triflow Synthetic - never used
Phil Wood - stays put but quite toxic

Use will include hub bearings, headset bits, etc.

The Maxima stuff is supposed to be great, but honestly never had any issues with any of the greases I've used including the Park Polylube. Motorex stuff is generally nice so I'd perhaps give that a shot if I were trying something else.

This stuff lasts forever, works on more than bikes & boats, stays where you put it, resists moisture & salt, and cooks you PEC w/P&K, and puts it on a poppy seed roll in the morning. A 1lb can has lasted me decades, and I never had a lubrication-related failure.

Toxic as all fVck tho. Not a dessert topping.

Best thing is, it's Warren-approved.

Phil Wood is my go-to, but I also have a tube of Finish Line Synthetic. My collection also includes a tub of Lubriplate + a gun for my vintage WTB Greaseguard components, an old tub of Pedro's grease, plus all the automotive stuff.

I have a 10+ year old bottle of this that I'm still using. What's crappy about it?
I've greased hub bearings and old skool bb's with it and it just won't stay put. It's not tacky. Seen this multiple times when I worked in a shop. I'd use it for headset cups and stuff that doesn't move so much.

Gotcha. I've got lower standards than most.

Perhaps you are looking for something thicker?
I thought the triflow was on the thicker side

Yeah, inexpensive Lithium Marine wheel bearing grease is the way to go.

"Expensive" Mobile XHP 222 is still less than $10 for a tube. I'm going on 10 years and I'm halfway through a tube.

Phil Wood is way better in something like a freehub. But if it's ball bearings or surfaces you want to grease, the above style Lithium greases are the way to go.

Lithium greases are the WD40 of grease. It's designed to separate and they thin out fast becoming a runny gummy gross useless mess. I have been looking for an instance where any sort of lithium grease is the best for any application and have yet to find one.

With that said I use superlube on everything.

Yes, and cartridge bearing too. Phil leaves a good surface film even if it doesn’t appear to “stick”. A good NLGI #2 is very good for loose ball applications.

While a little wordplay, def not a joke.
Just needed a place mark the day. Bunch of us in the right age group.

This is weird, in the sense that when I heard she passed, I felt old a bit. Then I saw she was 73 and realized she was way older than I thought. Not that her age makes it any better, mind you. Just that she was a solid generation before me. But I am still old, I get it.
