Hello, I just moved to the state and I live within about half an hour from New York City. Wondering if people know where it’s possible to ride my fat bike on the beach. Seems like it’s permitted in a bunch of places on the boardwalk, but wondering where I can go to ride on the actual beach itself? I would appreciate any tips here -thank you.

I haven’t ridden my fatbike in a number of years and when I did I would ride the beach in the off season. A crowded beach is not fun to ride on IMHO. Besides, wouldn’t you rather ride in the shade of the woods in the heat??

I typically used to ride on the beach early in the morning when nobody’s really out there. Are there good places to ride in the woods in the New Jersey suburbs around New York City?

Ah, didn’t think of dawn patrol rides!! I used to love hitting the beach early. I would imagine if you got in/out early, before the lifeguards show up, you should be good to go at most beaches except Sandy Hook.

Since you're in the suburbs of NYC and will have to drive to a beach to ride on it, why not drive to the woods instead? Just sayin'

Early morning boardwalks like in Spring Lake are bicycle friendly in the morning.

You shouldn't have any issues. The best is to plan around low tide, when more and better beach is available.

Southern end of Island Beach State Park? If they allow 4WD vehicles on the beach for fishing, I can't imagine why fat bikes wouldn't be allowed.

That is a fishing beach - even if allowed, you are going to be crossing fishing lines every 100 feet. Two years ago they required a fishing pole for everyone in the car - regardless if they were fishing or not. Further - if you did not have poles in the sand the rangers liked to come and ask questions. Ask me how I know

Very cool. And I appreciate the reply! Where is the picture of you on the fat bikes taken? I’d like to check that out.

South coast of the Raritan Bay east of Cliffwood Beach but west of Atlantic Highlands. Remember, LOW TIDE is ur friend.

Yep Staten Island’s south shore. From Conference Park head east. Or from Wolfe’s Pond Park head west. There’s a short bit of road to get around Lemon Creek. The ride is a mix of sand and rocky sections. Very diverse. Plenty of fun. Wolfs Pond also has singletrack. We usually go spring, fall or winter. You have to time the tides or some sections will be impassable. We used to ride Sandy Hook but Smokey tends to get in the way.
