I’m heading to Tweed Valley, Scotland for the Enduro World Series race #1. This was a lofty goal I didn’t think would actually happen- the series is qualified entry only. As unreal as this feels, here I am, standing in line with some rather awkward luggage, waiting for the British airways check in counter to open.

The race itself is next sat and Sunday, but I’ll do my best to post updates along the way.

Picked up the rental car and they upgraded me to an suv when they saw me lugging the bike bag and a suitcase around. Manual drive on the wrong side of the road, with unfamiliar road signs (and traffic patterns) at 4am my time was interesting.

Hotel seems decent. Check in was strictly at 3, so I napped in the parking lot for a couple hours. Couple of pics of the area my hotel is in and the hotel itself. ceilings are enourmously tall. It’s been drizzling on and off all day, got the bike back together. Back tire came unseated- has to be deflated to fit in the bag- so I’ll have tonfigure that out tomorrow.

Yep, going back to that after a while can be challenging. The most important thing is to remember that incoming traffic on the lane you’re merging with is coming from your right instead of the left, thankfully there’s lots of roundabouts.

You got lucky, that’s considered an early summer sunny day in Scotland! LOL

Are you going to race in the MTBNJ.com kit? I’m feeling a new permanent website banner coming…

Give them hell and congrats for making it to the competition! You’re going to do great!

Thanks! Yes- Def wearing orange and blue!

As you mentioned to me they gave you a "MG" suv... I find it funny that you travel to Scotland to drive an MG that is now built in China

Day 2: find the venue. Bare bones setup so far. Registration is only open to teams, and the shake down (riding your bike on some of the trails) is also limited to teams only- which really sucks - I mean, that’s a clear advantage over the independent riders like myself. I said as much and the response was the teams contribute more to the event- the cash I paid for entry apparently doesn’t count as much- maybe teams have an extra fee or something but still. Course inspection is later - though reg staff said no specific schedule. Santa Cruz tent isn’t setup yet so can’t address my tires yet- it’s pouring rain anyways so I’m going to find some waterproof walking shoes. This place is a hairs breath from turning into a mud pit and it’s still a ghost town- going to be a complete mess once it’s filled w people.

Well my picture sucks, but I bet those traditional shoes are water proof. The wool socks make a lot of sense too. He’s holding a bag pipe but that’s A bad angle.
