back in late 90s my wife and I did a few of these and they are a hoot survival is the key, truly alot of fun. Ghetto an old pair tires with longest screws your frame can hold and use a beater hardtail psi in the teens and just try to stay upright....

I did get a bike. There were only about 15 people, but this was pretty cool and much harder than you would think. At least 2 racers were pretty loaded on mix of pale ales and JD; one of them took second.

I think Gore did that event last year too.

Funny thing is, I was at my friends house in Gore a couple summers ago and brought my bike. I looked all over online and in the town shop and could not find any mtn bike riding places nearby. It looks like it would have a ton of potential for trails in that area.

Oh yeah, I won; I was NOT the other loaded rider. Got a nice Cannondale pump and a free lift ticket good any time at Gore or WhiteFace

The shop in town is now closed and their standard answer to the trails question was always, "yeah there's some really good places to ride, but you have to know someone because it's all private property."

The mountain itself is a good ride: http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/5759593
Tried to connect the summit from the Garnet Mines unsuccesfully: http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/6465635

Also if you head out of town on River Road, it turns to dirt with some connector loops - mostly ATV stuff but not bad - really nice river views in the fall. GPS of the road only from opposite side: http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/7018272

PS - Riding at the mountain is NOT frowned upon. I have met many of the patrol (ski and bike) that tell there is no policy against riding there. It is state property just like any park according to them.

graveyardman - Thanks for the info - not sure if our friends will invite us back up to Gore in the summer but if they do, I'll be armed with some spots to go. Their house is about 5 minutes from the main mtn so that zone sounds like a nice option. Last time I went, we ended up at a XC place about 30 minutes away. It was pay to ride and had some decent trails - I definitely had some fun on them.

Probably Garnet Hill Lodge: http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/4374851 That was the last time I rode there. They have one of the Xterra Triathalons up there. Nice place, some decent single track.

Another tough but fun ride is to the top of Prospect Mountain overlooking lake george. Road: http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/5759621 (gotta do it before 8:00 am, don't want bikes on the road when there are autos). There is an access road from Rt. 9 can't find my MB???

Yup, it was Garnet Hill. I think it was a worthwhile place to go to for not knowing the area. Seem like it was the XC ski trails from the winter but like you said, some decent singletrack could be found.
