Don't buy anything from Backcountry.com

That's lame. I bought a bunch of climbing gear from them, and probably some bike stuff too.

That’s a pretty hardline to take for a company. Shows to me that leadership has a bit of anxiety and fear.

Thanks for the heads up!

As long as they offer the lowest price on any item you folks will shop there. Stop being hypocrites.

True story, but I'm still gonna bring it to you to install it or fix it for me. I usually try to buy from Tree Fort Bikes because at least they are an LBS, and they will match all competitors pricing.

All of these huge E-Retailers bully local shops. As long as they offer the lowest price on any item you folks will shop there. Stop being hypocrites.
Very true, however some items (ski related) are not available in the local stores around here. But when it comes to the bike stuff, local it is for me. Cant beat the face to face and willingness to share knowledge

you know that Competitive cyclist is part of Backcountry as well.... I hate to say that i only use LBS for big repairs or full maintenance. I try buying from the local, but they'd have to order 90% of the stuff i needed anyway.. then i'd have to make it to the shop to pick up..

I think the LBS has to go above and beyond to stay in the retail parts game. Maybe some already do this, but not the 2 that are most ce (i'm not naming as i don't want to start an on-line war).. When i got my road bike from the LBS a few years ago, i used their sizing, but the bike came with x width bars... i wanted wider as soon as i road it. had to buy new bars... no discount, or exchange. Another example... this time bought mtb on-line, wanted to experiment with different length stems... Asked if i could try different ones w/o buying... nope. Is it too much to have a bunch of sizes of these "customizable" parts around that you can "demo" for a price that is refunded if you buy an upgrade from them?

To me, this would be a value add that you couldn't get from on-line (because of the pain in the ass of returning stuff to some on-line vendors)...

Also steepandcheap.com is part of the same company. In addition to that the company that owns Backcountry© also owns Canyon© and many other brands.

Dear Backcountry Community,

We have heard your feedback and concerns, and understand we fumbled in how we pursued trademark claims recently. We made a mistake.

In an attempt to protect the brand we have been building for nearly 25 years, we took certain actions that we now recognize were not consistent with our values, and we truly apologize.

It’s important to note that we tried to resolve these trademark situations amicably and respectfully, and we only took legal action as a last resort. That said, we know we mishandled this, and we are withdrawing the Marquette Backcountry action. We will also reexamine our broader approach to trademarks to ensure we are treating others in a way that is consistent with the culture and values envisioned by our founders and embraced by our community.

We only want what’s best for the whole community and we want every person and business in it to thrive. Backcountry has never been interested in owning the word “backcountry” or completely preventing anyone else from using it. But we clearly misjudged the impact of our actions.

We understand that this step we’ve taken may not be enough for some of you. The hope is that we can ultimately win back your trust, even if it takes time. We are grateful to be a part of your lives, providing you with great gear for your outdoor adventures, and all we want is to go back to doing what we do best. We intend to learn from this and become a better company.
