Depends on the hospital.
When my kid was born, our hospital did not allow dads to sleep over. They allowed dads to come earlier and leave later than regular visiting hrs tho.
My niece however, their hospital allowed my brother to sleep over.

Normally, no........
However for the birth of our second ( now 8??!!??) we kinda had an idea that the dude was gonna make an appearance VERY soon, and we had a wedding to go to. It was only a 12 minute drive up 287 from MoTown hospital, which was about 4 minutes and 19 seconds further than our house is. We were all dressed up in fancy adult clothes and she had her bag packed for MONTHS. Before we took off from the house, I threw some clothes for myself in a bag "just in case". Contractions started as the bride walked down the isle. We left immediately after the first kiss. Had to walk past all the reception food on the way out. Man I was hungry. The 17yr old valet kid was confused when I asked for our car.
"Wrong wedding sir? It happens"
"No, wife in labor. Hurry the fuck up"
17yr old kid shits himself as he runs away to get the car.

So, no. You don't need a bag, unless......

Don't forget to get film for the camera.
Trophies are great, I love mine.
This poster is in the lobby of JP's hospital.

Man how times have changed.

Wait out the big moment unless it goes over 30 hrs then go home and wait for the call. After Dr. whips out catcher mit and you comfort mom and kid for hour, you then party like a rock star because it's over johnny 🙂

big pockets man, big pockets. first one I left unprepared and had to shoot disposable cameras from the gift shop and wear the same clothes for 3 days (30hr labor plus recovery for me).
second one I had phone, digital camera, quarters, snacks in my pockets, little bugger was born in 3. hours.

and deliver close to home. first one was in 45min away (my wife liked the doc there), it was a nightmare. second one was 4 min away, bliss. you can pop home in between contractions 😎

2 kids, no "Dad bag". Just wing it. If you find you need something, I'm sure someone can bring it to you. I realize you recently moved down there. So, maybe you don't have too many options for folks to help out yet. If that's the case, throw a change of clothes in a back-pack in your trunk. It could be nice to have, if the time comes and you are miss-dressed for unknown # of hours in a hospital. Throw a book in the bag too. You might be there awhile.

Pro-tip: have a shared delivery room bag (camera, etc.) for the essentials and leave everything else in the car until the baby shows up.

Motown had a decent setup, I stayed for the two nights but went home atleast once for a few hours. Bring stuff to do, it gets boring when they are sleeping.

Yes, be prepared so you don't have to leave for something dumb, like your clothes stinking. Hoping for a short stay but be prepared for at least 2 days.

Start keeping crap in car trunk that you might want to have without having to go home. Magazines, cell phone charger/ battery, etc.
