Dirt Fest 2016

I went this past year for the first time. We both registered and saw no reason to even register because everyone rode on the mini bus, and a lot of us risked out lives in the back of a beat ass pickup truck. If they provided amble transportation I may consider registering. Aside from the transportation... the festival was "meh" at best. I enjoyed the trails and riding more than the actual festival.

don't get me wrong, there is a lot to be liked at the festival and everyone should experience it atleast one time!

I pretty much agree with you. I'll go every other year because it's a big gathering of my team mates, but other than a couple of trails, it was just "OK" to me. For better or worse, the date always conflicts with a car show in Carlisle so I won't be going this year.

It was worth every penny as you continued to entertain the conversation with the drunk / high women on the bus who was left at the festival that night by her husband and then when she walked back to the campground with us and them popped a squat and pissed right there on the side of the road - No TP...

Priceless...

Makes more sense to pick a weekend that isn't DirtFest months ahead of time, everyone on here who wants to go just gets a camping spot in the same camping area.

Same fun, 1/50 the chaos.

i'm a fan of "fair and honest reviews", but.....

Please remember there are people who spend time making this stuff happen.
Not enough busses/out-of-beer is usually a sign of unsuspected success (or that everyone rides until just before dark)
please bring grievances & feedback to the organizer, so they can improve the event.

what will this alternate event be called ? better start the permit process now!
 
I enjoyed the vendor aspect of the festival... Was able to talk to a bunch of techy types about drivetranes, suspensions, wheel sizes... Ya know - Brainfuck type stuff.
 
I have a great time every year....even registered our spots at Ridge Camp already. Great time away with my friends riding bikes, drinking beers, and hanging around the campfire. Can't wait until May.
 
I didn't think the bus situation was bad last year. Yes, you had to wait once in awhile, but there were a lot of people there. The only real issue was when one of the bike trailers broke and they had to scramble to fix it, which they did as quickly as they could.

I have no idea where my team mates will be this year. I forget which camp area we were in last year, but about half of the other campers were not part of the festival. We were loud. Very loud. They were not happy. State Police were involved. Warnings were issued. I had already puked and passed out, so I missed the visit from the troopers (who apparently were actually not bad to deal with) but not the Park Ranger visit the next day. My first and last experience with large amounts of tequila... Then it rained.

One shower and one shitter for the entire camp area was a bigger problem. If I go next year, I'll have an RV of some type.

The Bus with the bike trailer was not the issue. That was only for the people that didn't want to ride their bikes the 5 miles back to the camp site. The issue was getting back to camp after the nighttime festivity's. We had like 80 people waiting 40 minutes to get on a 30 seat bus back to camp. Some might have even been drinking... Not a pretty site..

PS: We always wait to register at the event on Saturday when we ride over to the fest. The bracelets get you free beer at the beer booths during the day and free beer at night, which like I said before, they ran out of..

i remember sitting in the back of a beat ass Datsun or a B2000 yota with rusted holes in the bed and a drunk guy next to me not able to keep his weight forward when we went uphill.. that's when i got close with god and asked to survive the ride back....

I guess... we rode over Sat and left fairly early - before dark, I think. We had to wait quite awhile for the bike-bus back as well. I don't remember much as I was really hung over from the aforementioned night before.

Thinking about it... I suppose that's one thing that kinda irks me about the whole festival. Why is the "festival" area so far away from the camp grounds? Seems counter-intuitive to me... Unless I'm missing something and there are other camping areas. It's funny as I look at the trail map for the area and I don't recognize any of it... It seemed strange to me there isn't a "jogging path type" trail that goes from the festival area to the camping area along the lake.

I had a bracelet for the beer area but didn't feel like waiting in line for beer I don't like (not an IPA fan) when we had a keg of Oscar Blues Ten Fidy imperial stout back at our campsite along with a small bar's worth of other choices. In Team XXL, we take our drinking seriously. 😉

Regardless... the logistics of this event must be insane and there's no way to make everyone happy. Hopefully everyone has a good time and the weather is nice... especially since I'll be about 100 miles south in Carlisle in a little British car of suspect weather-tightness... 😛
