We were in Colorado a couple of years ago;

Walker Ranch is right outside of Boulder. Was a good ride. Pretty cool for being right in town.

We also rode Buffalo Creek, which is about an hour drive from Denver. this place was awesome as well:

If I had to pick one, I'd pick Buffalo Creek, but its also farther. If you are short on time, Walker Ranch will do. I'm sure there are other epic places to go, but when we went, we were in the mud season. So check when you are going. These places are usually the first to dry out.

Yes, buffalo creek. All IMBA designed trails, awesome. Word of caution, this park is literally out in the middle of no where. I was by myself and it is alittle unnerving. Like you fall break a leg and no one finds you unnerving.

Red Rocks is a good short, maybe squeeze 2 hours of a ride only like 20 min from Denver.

As far as getting a MTB, I don't remember where but found a shop in downtown Denver to rent a bike from.

When are you going? I believe the area just got slammed with major snow. Which I'm sure is normal snow to them...But anyway, I think winter riding in Denver is slightly different than we are used to here.

Or if you get eaten by a mountain lion; That was Mandis fear 😛

Fruita!

If you want to make a weekend out of it, head to Fruita, CO. More fun than Moab, IMO.

I agree if u have the time to check out fruita but is like a 5 hour drive, if you only have 1 day with the weather out in co look into lake pueblo state park. Its about 2 hours south of denver so conditions should be ok. Lake pueblo has more than 40 miles of single track. Check it out here

I rented a bike from these guys a few years ago - http://boulderbikesmith.com/

They can help you with the local trail systems as well

I remember that they had a decent selection of mountain bikes as well so you shouldn't be stuck on a Pacific

if Fruita - check the Road 18 trails and/or Colorado Back Country biker on the web, Kevin will set up... the guy at Single Tracks in Fruita can set you up with bikes and transport to the various trails that are amazing and 1/2 hour away, max... if interested, PM me... i've got tons more info, just did a trip in sept 2011

I would highly recommend riding fruita... By far the most epic riding I have ever experienced. Good luck and enjoy

trip

Ahh..

Well I appreciate all the info but the Military has change some stuff on me, So I wont be making the trip out there on their Dime this year.. AHAHH but Ill def keep all the info in case i decide to head out there myself sometime or maybe make a group trip out of it if anyone goes... I have 25 days of vacation to burn this year ....

I know I'm a bit late to the party, but I got to live on the Front Range this past summer and got some great riding in. The best advice I can give you is to go to a bike shop and buy a trail map. Although it doesn't have every trail in perfect detail, it tells you where to go, which is the best part. They're only a few dollars and are coated so water doesn't wreck them. There is no good online resource to find all the trails out there, but everyone rides!

Again, I know I'm late to the party, but I wanted to get this out there.

Whats considered the front range, i am moving to CO in 2 weeks. Living about 30-40 southwest of denver. Got some info, looks like you can ride everywhere.

The Front Range is anything between Denver and the Rockies (Boulder, Golden, Colorado Springs, etc). The Western Slope is Fruita, Grand Junction, Durango, etc.

The park in Boulder is really amazing. A really fun time with lots of options.

i do a month in colorado every year, fruita is great. You might want to try Monarch Crest trail ride. They drop you at 11,500 feet and ride 30-36 miles of mostly single track to something like 7,000 feet and its much closer to Denver than fruit. Dakota ridge across from red rocks is my favorite being one of the most technical that close to denver. White Ranch is a faster one and Centennial Cone is a good higher elevation in the front range. A lot of the front range parks have every other day for mountain bikers and the other days for hiking. Riding in CO you have to get used to riding on high exposure ledges with only inches of trail
