Chestnut Ridge
Continuing with my utter surprise to be in Ohio, and with a mountain bike, I present to you the 2nd Ohio park that proves to be better than I would have expected. While this is a solid park and well worth the trip, what they are doing with this park gives it a very bright future indeed.
If you find yourself in the Columbus area, you can ride here or Alum Creek. Both of them are a solid option if you want to get a ride in. Much like my first ride here, this park exceeded my expectations.
Getting There/Parking
Columbus is a long way from NJ. It's highly unlikely that you'll be planning a trip here just to bike. So let's assume you're already here. The park is southeast of the city center by 30 minutes depending where you're staying, and the time of day.
There is only 1 parking lot. Let TrailForks be your guide.
General Ride/Trail Notes
- I'm not going to pretend I remember one trail from the next. For the most part, all the trails are of a similar vibe. And that vibe is generally fast, twisty, and zippy trails. There's some speed and fun to be had on any of these trails.
- More Cowbell - I didn't ride this trail as it was closed and under construction. But this is a very legit, machine-built, downhill run that looks to be something special when it's all done. Make sure you find this trail if you ride here.
Routes
- August 2024 here - this is not the easiest route to follow but there aren't THAT many intersections. For the most part, the common trails are more worn that others. Think of Six Mile in that respect. It's usually obvious where to go

Trip Planner
I may throw together a Columbus ride planner at some point but right now let's assume you are not here for a MTB weekend.
Food & Drink
I've been to Columbus 3 times in 2024 and the list of places to eat & drink here grows each time. This specific park isn't really near anything, so my recommendation would basically be: "Go back to town and find something."
If/when I put together a Columbus trip page, I will include some of my favorite places to stop while here.
