chain problem

So i just got a new Gary Fisher paragon and I seem to be having a little problem with the chainrings and the chain. when i am on the granny chainring and the small cog on the cassette the chain is scraping on the middle chainring. it very slight, but my other bike never did this. Should there be a spacer on the crank to make it level with the cassette?

that's your crossover gear. Stay away from that one. It wears the chain prematurely and can cause lots of carnage when the chain jams in the derailluer and it rips off the bike. Start shifting up to the middle ring earlier.
