Carpal Tunnel and grips

Anybody have carpal tunnel syndrome, just seeing what grips people are using. I just got diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome, I only have it in my left thumb. I know Ergon markets their grips as helping with CPS. Anybody using them or other grips. I have my shifters and brakes set up my hands aw in a neutral position. I been using Oury grips for over 20 years (not the same pair)

i'm using the Ergon grips with my twist shifters. broke the bases of both thumbs multiple times. helps with fatigue and general pain management in that area for me.

i know i have had it for years but choose to ignore it, i tried Ergons and hated them. they didn't do crap either to alleviate the numbness. I just deal with it...

The trick to Ergon grips is that they should angle upward so that they support your wrist in a neutral position.

yeah point the blade right at your seat for starters. It really helps your wrists from rotating down through rough terrain. I was getting crazy wrist pain while holding my camera, and the ergon grips on the bike solved it. One of my bikes doesn't have them though, but riding with them at least 50% of the time even helps. It's the constant banging down on your wrists causing your hands to flex back that kills your wrists.

Ergon GP1. I used to have palm and wrist pain from riding. Lots of palm contact surface area for comfort from these grips. Make sure you angle them properly and they will also keep your wrists straight.

If you still have pain after the grips, you can play with saddle position. If the nose is tilted too far forward, you could be putting too much pressure on your hands as well.

I think a combination of ergonomic grips and ergonomic bar ends should help, for two reasons: (1) more support and (2) options for multiple hand positions (which I find even more important in battling hand fatigue)

I stopped using the ergon grips since they were a little too "bulky" for my taste. Specialized makes ergo grips and bar ends that work for me..

I love having the minimalist bar ends. I don't use them too often, but I appreciate the protection it gives my fingers when the trees get tight. When they're actually used as bar ends, they're just enough for some extra leverage.

I tried the Ergon but didn't really like them so I switched to the Specialized grips ( I think they are the count our XC) and liked them better than the Ergon. If I recall, the Specialized were like $19 versus $35 for the Ergon.

I do not have the bar ends though.

Try Acupuncture

I had carpal tunnel in both arms stemming from my elbows to finger tips. Would wake up with pins & needles in both arms and the pain would continue throughout the day. Ran the gamut of Orthopedic Specialists and was given a wrist guard and option for surgery.. Lived with the pain for about a year and finally decided to try Acupuncture. Long story short, two weeks of intense therapy and now 1 day a week maintenance, I have had zero issues. No numbness, long rides road/mtb and never a need to shake it out. The beginning of the season i would avoid shifting in races due to a complete numb hand. I can now ride for multiple hours without even thinking about my wrists. I would seriously consider trying acupuncture if you want to be pain free. Look up: Matthew Branham, www.healingpathacupuncture.com

PS: insurance may cover some visits, if not this will cost way more than Grips...

Thanks, might check out the Specialized ones, they look more to my liking and they come in red

Had it years back from the road bike. What helped me was learning to not lean on my wrists but use my core to hold me up. Even on the mountain bike, if I lean on the bars, my wrists will start to bother me and I am reminded to hold myself in position with my core. Keep the weight off the wrists.
