Car-spotting thread

Watched a tv trucking show, that one of the episodes they transported several blades. Needed special permits, routes, and phone pole wires moved. A lot of effort on the truck driver too. Neat stuff!
Yes. This was a convoy of 3 trucks each with the lead and trailing safety cars escorting. Truck driver gotta have some skills to drive those things for sure.

they look pretty good to me. some steel wool around the rims??

I was gonna say steel wool as well. Although doing a DIY repaint isn't all that bad if you have another set of wheels to use while you do it.

I re-painted my STi wheels last winter, I had never done it before and came out pretty good. Before I had a dedicated winter setup the salt had made the finish start to crack and peel. Instead of spending $800+ for proper powder coat I opted for $50 in AutoZone supplies and a few days of prep and paint. Clean them super well, 400 grit (I think?) paper to remove paint, few light coats of primer, 3-4 light coats of paint and 3-4 light coats of matte clearcoat. The only real trouble I ran into was temperature, because it was winter and paint takes a long time to cure below 60deg I had to let them sit in my basement for 2 weeks before the paint actually hardened. Heat lamps would have helped.

Maybe this should be in the DIY thread, but honestly it was a pretty cool little project.

Steel wool's not gonna do it and they still need to be clear coated or they're going to oxidize terribly.

I've used http://www.wheelcollision.com/ a bunch of times and have always been happy. Not sure where Manny lives but they send a truck to NJ every day to pick up wheels from a bunch of shops. Turn-around is 2-3 days. Middletown Service on Rt 35 Middletown is a stop.

@sundaydoug how much for your services ? Honestly i could probably do a crazy sanding job and dip and be fine. I basically bought the set for the tires to use. My current ones are down to the wear bars and 10yo....

Add to that the seller i picked them up from upgraded to f80 m3, twilight purple, individual program color. 1 of 8. Woooowww! Example

Maybe he'll be more careful parking the F80?

ha. he sold me his e46 wheels that were on it when he got it.
I can tell this guy is meticulous. "kids bring your towels to sit on when you come in this car"

Some people plasti-dip rims, but I've heard it peels off rather easily. My stock STi wheels are actually pretty nice, I didn't want to cheap out that much.

If I had no other projects going on I'd paint your wheels. It was a fun project and fresh wheels make any car look so, so much better.

My wife on the other hand would likely have an issue with me painting someone else's wheels instead of finishing the dozen or so uncompleted house projects!

So is that a yes? Ha
Wheel rim group seems reasonable for machined wheel like mine. Spend money or make time. Gaaahhhh

What instructions did you follow?

That reminds me of the story I heard about my friend's first date with his now-wife of 15 years. He drove his minty E30 M3 (which he still has - less than 50k miles on it I think). On getting in the car, she carefully moved a towel on the floor out of the way so it wouldn't get dirty. The towel he put down to keep his floor matts clean... :)
