Hola,

My 2004 Mercury Sable came stock with the "Premium Sound System". In fact, it was SO Premium that my grandparents never once turned it on. Basically, I blew out the front speakers. The rear speakers are fine, but the front ones sound like tin foil.

I just want to replace the front two for now, and I'll see how it sounds. I don't have a sub, nor do I plan on having one.

I went to Best Buy and they said I have the "weird" size - 6" x 8" (?), and only a few speakers work with my car. They suggested these: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8211053&type=product&id=1166234894779

Any one else have opinions? :)

I manage Autotredz on Rt 27 in Kendall Park 08824. 732 422 8899. Yes you have 6 x 8 speakers in the front doors. I can defiantly help you out. Ask for Rick, and i will make sure to give you the fellow biker discount. I can help with install question if needed.

6x8 is really not too weird a size.

I had the same in my Focus.
I would thoroughly recommend Crutchfield. You will get absolutely everything you need for the job, plus instructions (which are actually really good)
You pay a little more than if you trawl the web for the same speakers, but it is a few dollars normally and I think the other stuff is worth the extra.

If it helps, I bought 4x 6x8 Pioneer's (the blue ones) which are designed for Ford (mercury being the same) and they sounded great.
Much better in fact than the, more expensive, JBL's I put in my Jeep.

As a personal preference I also like to solder the wires for a good contact, but the connectors are usually fine. Lastly a piece of Dynamat (sound deadening) on the inside of the door skin will make a huge difference too.
(tip: Dynamat is expensive... if you buy a roll of the aluminum backed roofing repair, it is almost exactly the same for about $10 for a huge roll)

don't be afraid to do this job yourself. Its almost always very easy and extremely satisfying!!
