cannonball question

1) It looks like the only way to get onto cannonball is from bear swamp road. Is this correct?

2) There is a "no bike area" on the map that cannonball runs right through. Whats the deal with that?

3) Where does the ringwood-ramapo trail dump you out on skyline drive?

1) Well, yes and no, depends where you are coming from (Blue and White can take you there too)
2) no comment
3) by Yellow which then connects with cannonball (they overlap a bit then split again) but you basically end up at the top of Skyline dr.

1) If you're starting out from Ringwood, you can take the Red south and it will eventually intersect the Yellow which will eventually intersect Canonball. There is also a Green trail from the Yellow which will get you to Canonball faster, but that's not on any map. Check out Elzoller's map:

2) That's the Boy Scout camp. I've ridden through there and ran into a care-taker guy in a truck, but he didn't say anything.

3) The Ringwood-Ramapo trail ends when it intersects the Yellow trail. Check Elzoller's map in the link above. You can take Canonball/Yellow south toward Skyline. It will dump you a bit north of the upper Skyline lot: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=41.047523,-74.251516

I believe the quickest way to get to Cannonball from Lot C is to take some fireroads to the red to the blue, but blue will be hike a bike.

Only sections of the Cannonball are open to bikes right now because of ownership of property. The Cannonball south of Skyline is open to bikes down to Pompton. To the north it is open where it co-mingles with the red and yellow until where the yellow and the red split. The red has a bit of hike-a-bike that is being re-routed by Jorba. This may take a few more years to finish. We hope to mark it better some time this year.

From Lot C the white is open out to Ilgenstine rock. From there you can take the yellow down to the blue and back to the red. Green is hiking only.

ride the gas pipeline from ringwood up and over pierson ridge to bear swamp lake and make a right on the north eastern end and follow the road to the beginning of the cannonball trail. downside is plowing through some wet spots and running over rattlesnakes.
