Can you have fun at Mountain Creek if you can't jump well?

that is exactly what I learned on my first trip up, no lines and by my 4th or 5th run everything was glazing or melted away. Just the rears so I was able to continue, plus I am a specialist at riding with no working brakes.

I am hoping to go next Thursday with a possible group if you wanted to join, I have only been 3 times prior and ride a hardtail up there. Last trip @EJphotos joined me for the first time and it was a pretty good time.
Gotta work but thanks maybe one day I'll be able to ride with some of you guys here!.... but on that note I guess middle of the week is probably best to go so less of a crowd? Now I gotta see if I have resin brakes lol!

Don’t sweat the brakes and don’t over think it. It’s crazy fun and really addicting. The trail map has all the trails listed in order of progression so you can start easy and work your way up the list. It’s closed Monday-Wednesday but Thursday’s are pretty chill.

While on the subject. Would a Stumpjumper ST. hold up there? Is a full helmet needed? Not just your standard bike helmet. Thanks.

Yes your bike will be fine unless your doin the really big drops. You don't need a full face either but I think its a good idea since your moving with way more speed than on a trail.

I was thinking of going but what is the minimum skill you would need say on the green trails to have a good time. I've been riding less than a year and mostly doing the trails around Morris County (lots of climbing and lots of sketchy descents lol). I'm not very good at jumping. To give you an idea, I went to High Bridge and thought the beginner trail was still a little too advanced for me. I didn't feel comfortable attempting to get air on any of the small jumps because I felt that there was not a lot of room for error on the landings (like I would end up going off the trail or overshooting a berm). Should I get more comfortable with drops and jumping before going to a place like MTN creek? Thanks
Just go. You can ride greenhorn deviant ego trip and indy for hours without getting bored. Then breakout domboo and alpine. If I'm fine then you're fine.

ahh very good point... I take it a place like this is where you wouldn't want to accidently cross over onto a wrong trail! lol!!!!

Anything you can't ride don't be afraid to get off and walk (on the side of the trail) if you do find yourself in one of those situations.

You'll be fine. The guys from OOS were on hardtails and one or two had half face. I wouldn't personally but everyone has their own risk tolerances.

What this guy said. The easier jump lines are mostly tabletops so even if you get it wrong it’s no biggie. Great way to learn (I still need to go back and work on it).
tip: if you want to stop and look at a feature get off the riding line.

Regarding gear, bring as much stuff as you own or can borrow. There’s no weight penalty. Full face is a good thing. And don’t tell me Remy wears an open face on insane gnar. He does, but I ain’t Remy.

yes I've been looking for table tops to learn on lol! Can't find any around me might have to just upset the wife and build one in my yard.

Reminder to all that this weekend is the last weekend of the year at creek. And yes with the jump jam Sunday and a DH race you best prefer for some lift lines.

ESC DH is this weekend, jump jam is next weekend, and yes there is another week. Regardless, weekend lines will be nuts...get those Thursday runs in!!

I've been riding up there for over 10 years and worked in the shop for a few seasons back during the Diablo days. Seeing the grins on the first-timers when they bring back their rental bikes at the end of the day is a real treat. Like others have said, you can have a great time even if you don't know how to jump. In fact, it's an excellent place to build all kinds of mountain bike skill-sets, including how to jump.
