Can XT shifters be split open?

My right side shifter (M770) was acting up so I removed all the screws and cracked it open. I was not able to completely open the shifter with the large silver lever attached but I could still spray some WD40 in there to clean and lube things up. It's now working like a champ again.

But my question is can the large lever be removed? So a proper cleaning can be done to the ratchet inside? I could not find any info on the internets.

Thanks!

Dunno about Shimano, but the last time I did research on SRAM triggers (cause one of my x.7 was broken) .. the answer was something like there's not much info out there, do it at your own risk. I think there's like a zillion parts in there .. I might have found one web page where the guy documented a SRAM trigger take-apart, but memory is pretty fuzzy. There's really nothing documented by SRAM.

I still have my broken x.7 .. may try to open it up at some point.

I think jdog also posted at some point that if you send it back to SRAM they'll give you a free one or something. But memory is fuzzy on that too.

I think a lot of the problems are caused by the lube in the shifters thickening or getting gummed up. Anytime one of my shifters acts up, I just clean it out and put some light lube on and it works great again. The caveat is that sometimes solvents or lubes can damage plastic parts but so far so good for me.
