flying into durango, my friend lives there, and we are riding wolf creek the next day, then for the following two days we will be in silverton....the trip will be way too short..but i just cant wait...february is too far away.

i know that when i get back, i just wont be able to ride any NJ stuff...it will be terrible..ill be ruined forever...but a trip up to tuckermans ravine should fix that hopefully

I know it'll suck, but when you're back in jerz just remind yourself that a day on snow is always better than a day not on it!

If it fills in well enough to ride this year, I'd like to take a shot at dodge's drop at Tuckermans this year.

wow..that route at tucks looks awesome!

have you ridden tuckermans before? i noticed the one boarder was riding with an ice pick in his hand..is that in case of a fall or something? so he can dig it into the snow and stop sliding?

I've been up there twice now, once in 2006 and in 2007.

2007 Video: http://blip.tv/file/209515/

In Tuckerman I've been down:

I've been down:
1 - Left Gulley
3 - The Chute
8 - The Lip
9 - The Sluice
10 - Right Gully
My favorite is the Chute, I think it's the steepest and also has one of the longest pitches.

And At Hillmans I've been down,

3 - Hillmans Highway
7 - Lower Snowfield
Dodge's is number 4 in this picture. It's supposed to be the most difficult line at Tux, and sometimes needs to be descended (aided) depending on how an icefall fills in with snow. However I think that guy is a big chump for snowboarding with an iceaxe in his hand. There are far safer ways to self arrest. It hasn't been safe to ride it both times I've been up there. Hopefully this year!

For the most part, you don't need ice climbing gear in tux, unless you're doing a winter assent. To put it best, I always say, if you need crampons and an ice axe to climb up it, do you really want to be skiing/boarding down it.

Another pictures of Dodge's Drop, just to the right of my friend's ski tip.

Anyway, sorry to hijack your silverton thread!

When I go is completely dependent on the weather.
We usually set aside a few weekends in April and when it's good we go. I'll be out in Colorado at the beginning of April so probably towards the end this year. I'll keep you posted.
