Hatched the plan with my local riding bud to finally get out on the roads and ride since it seemed yesterday melted a lot of the stuff off the edges of the local roads here for one of our usual loops. For me this required some extra planning last night since I dont want to take the main carbon bike out in the dirty salty roads, so that meant I had to take the backup bike off the trainer.
Staged everything in the garage last night for a quick get away right on time today at lunch. My friend has been getting his new Kona Libre gravel bike built up so today was the maiden voyage. After not riding a road bike outdoors since Jan 14th and riding the new to me Timberjack on the roads, man this felt so awkward to ride outdoors even if I always ride it on the trainer.
We met up and got about 6 miles in and out of nowhere the rear would not shift down past the middle of the cassette. we pulled over to see if anything obvious but no luck. Spent 6 weeks riding this F$%^ thing on the trainer and no issues, first road ride and Im guessing its the shifter cable. Used the barrel adjuster to get some more of the lower range back but it still wasnt 100%. decided F it lets keep going and I just did higher cadence for the rest of the ride.
The fender came in handy some of the roads had that continuous sheet of water running across. At least the cable/shifter held up for me to get home. Guess it goes to the shop this weekend but it felt so good to get back on some real roads again.
Carbon bike will come out tomorrow cause I am not missing another sunny day since the weekend will be crap weather.
